New Pew poll. 1/3 of Americans don't believe in it. Scary. I don't believe in magic do you?

Some simply can't accept that life is a by product of the universal laws of physics and chemistry Frederick, because they need to believe it has some meaning.

It is generally accepted that the most profound wake up call will come if/when life can positively be identified elsewhere in the solar system/ universe.

Europa is the current favourite and main hope. When is that planned NASA unmanned 'probe' mission, to land and bury through the surface ice to the ocean below scheduled for?

Hope it's in our lifetime!

Wouldn't that be something to have contact in the near future! Probably wouldn't have any effect on the evolution non believers. My Aunt is crazy with the born again stuff and she thinks we were all made 2000 years ago. I ask her about the American Indians well before Christ and her brain freezes because it doesn't compute.

I will need to search for the poll asking evangelical Republicans if they thought Obama was Satan reincarnated on Earth.
17% said yes. I was told this idea by missionaries in Belize.
They were sitting on the beach asking God through prayer to help them choose a restaurant for lunch.

The rest of the story, as they say, is disbelief in in evolution follows party lines. Less than half of Republicans support the concept of evolution (43%)--24% less than those who are Democrats. So are you required to be antagonistic to science to support Republicans--or have that many sane people left the party to the wing nuts?

It's simpler than that, Mac. Republicans can't think for themselves--or don't want to--so they leave the thinking to others. They're woefully lacking in critical thinking skills.

And since they have little analytical skills, they can't figure stuff out, so they believe what they're told -- whether it's from Fox and Limbaugh or reading from the Good Book.

It's not that being republican causes this... it's the other way 'round. Those unable to think for themselves fall prey to the ones spouting the rules. It's more comfortable for the dumb and lazy to "fall in line."

Really, there is no question about, evolution is a fact. You know why I can say that? Well, just look how mankind has evolved dogs over a relatively short period of time. Moreover, we all know that Monsanto to has proven that they can evolve and modify plants to yield different attributes. Evolution is simply the effects of changes over time.

The real stumbling block for those that deny evolution and cling to biblical Creation is the idea of "human evolution". While there is no reason to believe that humans are immune to evolution, the problem point is that no one has yet been able to find the absolute genetic missing links tying more primitive humanoids to today's modern man. Even though we are able to find genetic evidence of neanderthal man in humans today, religious sources want to look the other way.

The irony is that everything that has been is still here today in some form. When it comes down to it, nothing really leaves the planet, unless we make it happen. The absolute truth is buried out there in the remnants of the past. Needless to say, it's the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Wow, according to you guys evolution started about 30 years ago, amazing, who knew?
I could have sworn that evolution was a whole lot older than that.
JFK was older than what you guys are talking about, today he would have been considered a conservative, according to your views, just for starters.
The new dems, nothing like the old dems.
Evolution is everywhere.

While there are still gaps in the full sequence of human evolution, the general trend, or pattern, is now more or less clearly understood.

There is evidence that far from there being just a single strand of human evolution, there may have been many such different branches of development (almost different species) vying for dominance. Our own tree (or branch) appears to have been the most successful and well adapted (i.e. NO special adaptation, but the ability to be all rounders) and was fittest for purpose.

Neanderthal man also made it well into the final selection, but they may have had some basic design flaw (specifically to do with sinus problems, and being prone to illness from such) thoughy it's clear they DID interbreed with our own strain, and their genetics can still be traced in us, today. (I have sinus issues too, but NOT ginger hair! Laughing )

It appears likely that we will be unable to develop our brain size any further. (Though it has never been compulsory to be a Republican.) It is to do wiuth body temperature being at the top limit for further improvement in brain function. (Explains a lot!!! Wink )

Incidentally, should have added - some recent discoveries suggest that the origen of our species goes back almost three million years to the earliest forms.

Also, that studies of stone age skulls shows that their brains were indeed probably equivalent to ours (fully developed). If a stone age man could miraculously be cloned and raised today, they probably could even become a liberal.

Now there's a thought! Laughing Laughing
