Has anyone tried the Quatro Sphere Thruster? If so, would you mind sharing your impressions. I'm looking to replace my JP Freestyle Wave (93) with a Tri/Thruster set up that can also be sailed as a single for bump-and-jump. Also, if you have tried it, I'd also be interested in knowing how it compares to the JP Single Thruster or the Fanatic Triwave in the 88 to 93 liter range. Thanks. |

I can tell you one universal thing about Quatro boards. When you ride them, they turn and feel like much smaller boards. IOW's, if you are riding a 93 liter board, you could go all the way up to the 102, and feel like you are riding a 95 liter (older style) board.
Not saying their volume calculations are incorrect. Just that the shape and dimensions really make them feel smaller. I'm guessing that the thickness is what contributes to this. |

Not all Quatro boards sail like smaller boards. The Quatro Freeride 110 from several years back was sluggish and large-feeling in comparison to other boards tested at the Windsurfing Mag Hatteras test '11. It simply would not go fast in flat water and wasn't much of a champ in chop except that it was very smooth and did jibe great. It didn't come out of the hole terribly well and its volume and width caused it to feel massive unless the jibe was very powerfully executed with a fast sail flip.
This recollection likely does not apply to the current range. _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!

I have the 2013 Quatro Thruster. Sailed it in Maui for 4 weeks in small waves and vodoo chop . I liked the board so much that I bought one when I got home to use in Hatteras and N.J. Mine is a 74 L as I only weigh about 137 lbs. Very smooth for bump and jump and the thrusters help against spin outs if you don t land a jump just right. I haven t tried it yet as a single fin but I did try a bigger center fin with small side bites which helps with weeds. Its a Quatro so of course its great in the waves, but it also makes for a fast and smooth riding bump and jump board ! |

Thanks for the responses. I have a 2013 Quatro Quad LS 110 as my light wind wave board and love it. I sail it anywhere from 6.3 float and ride to powered 5.2. I have seen some limited reports on the new Pyramid, but nothing on the Sphere. Perhaps it's so new that only the pros are riding it so far? |

sorry no comments on those board you are considering.
I have a Chakra in 88L and a 100L on order.
I would have a look at one of the best tri fin boards made, the price delivered to a airport near you would be very attractive.

Or, with my multifinned boards, when I CHOOSE to land nearly sideways under power. There are many scenarios each reach in which that's both advantageous and fun. You can learn very quickly to put that to good use, if desired.

Isobars, when are you landing sideways after a jump and find it beneficial? The only time it's a plus is when doing lip slides and I understand you don't wavesail. |
