Why bother with such complicated things as space and time? It all has no meaning to us.. just try to live your lives as happy as you can Smile

Despite having personally contributed to putting man on the moon, I must ask the same question in today's debt, deficit, and global threat environment. When insane spending forces choosing between putting a McDonald's on Mars vs slowing radical Islam to a crawl, which is more urgent?

Spinoff? Did we actually have to GO to the moon to invent Tang and Velcro? Couldn't we have just not constructed the Saturn V or pushed the launch button once Tang and Velcro were invented?

But just "Being Happy" accomplishes nothing, and we as a nation and a society wouldn't last five years with that goal.

Cogitating the possibilities of space and time (and about a million other
trifles), makes me happy. Last week my grandson (who is 5) asked if
you went through a wormhole, could you end up back in time to see
dinosaurs (the answer, by the way, is probably not through a wormhole
that begins and ends in the same universe). Then we played with hot
wheels, what could be more joy filled.

p.s. A good 1/4 mile swell ride makes me pretty happy too. ;*)

I did not know 16% of asteroids 655 ft. in diameter or larger are binary. Did you?

The mountain-sized asteroid that made a close pass by Earth on Monday has a small moon in tow, radar images released by NASA show.

Asteroid 2004 BL86 flew about 745,000 miles (1.2 million km) from Earth, about three times farther than the moon, with closest approach coming at 11:19 a.m. EST (1619 GMT) on Monday.

While it posed no threat to Earth, the flyby did provide astronomers an opportunity for some close-up studies without having to launch and operate a robotic probe.

Radar images taken by NASA's Deep Space Network antenna in Goldstone, California, show the 1,100-foot (325 meter) wide asteroid has a small moon in orbit, NASA said.

The moon is about 230 feet in diameter, NASA said.

About 16 percent of asteroids that are about 655 feet or larger are a binary - with a primary asteroid and a smaller asteroid moon - or even triple systems, with a primary body and two moons, NASA said.

Related images taken with an infrared telescope in Hawaii show the asteroid is primarily basalt, with a composition similar to lava flows found in Hawaii.

Asteroids of this type are believed to be pieces of Vesta, a large protoplanet circling in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, that were blasted into space by impacts, NASA said.

Monday's flyby was the closest Asteroid 2004 BL86 will come to Earth for at least the next 200 years.

I did not know that, but I've always wondered if there's enough mass
in the asteroid belt to reform a new proto planet. Second gen
proto planets, wonder if the current galaxy is old enough for that.

Random bits of a long forgotten supernova, containing every element of life, coalescing to form this asteroid, coalescing to form Earth, over billions of years, sprouting basic life forms and eventually humans who ride scientifically created watercraft, who bicker on a scientifically created internet forum about “The most flawed person In the world”.

This is science.
