Good, the presidio trust is trying to turn the park into an event site...this goes against the original intent , EIR, and bylaws of the Park.

"While the programs of the proposed (Lucas) museum seem interesting, the museum's offerings could be located anywhere; therefore, the museum does not merit one of the most important sites in the entire Presidio"...
As a Lucas fan, San Franciscan, Park user, Presidio YMCA member, and (only lastly) windsurfer, I couldn't agree more.

FYI

The post does not mention at what time the meeting on 27-January shall be exactly.

EDIT:
Here it is:

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/place/article/Final-proposals-for-Crissy-Field-turned-in-to-5155728.php

SNAFU, the street light at the end of Mason St is owned and operated by the city, the presidio trust runs the area north of mason St, the GGNRA runs south of mason St. The proposal for the old commissary building and the sports basement relocating up Mason St will just be a traffic night mare for anyone who currently enjoys visiting Crissy field. I would like to see the sports basement stay were its at with the commissary building or just kick them out and make that area more open space. putting the sports basement directly across the street from east beach parking is a terrible idea, also the presidio trust will charge for all parking in there domain, therefore most will park across the street at free parking at east beach crissy field. this will force the GGNRA to start charging for parking, and also possibly time limit parking.« less

"directly across the street from east beach parking" there should be a watersports center, with vessels storage, warm showers, lockers room, refreshments, a small lounge, and (at the very least) a spare parts shop.
It takes 1.5 people staff to man it... that unless it booms; and then more power to the business.

Wake up San Francisco!

IMHO Good !

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Presidio-Trust-shoots-down-George-Lucas-plan-5201301.php

The seven-member board of the Presidio Trust on Monday rejected all three proposals for a cultural center across from Crissy Field, but said it would offer filmmaker George Lucas another site in the park to house his collection of American popular art.

The trust will hold off on a decision about what to do with the 8-acre site where the Presidio's old commissary is now occupied by the retailer Sports Basement.

Lucas' proposed museum, which house his personal collection of American popular art, was competing with two plans with environmental themes put forward by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and WRNS Studio and Chora, a consulting firm.

His team had waged a vigorous lobbying campaign for the site, including backing from Gov. Jerry Brown, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and, especially, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, as well as scores of Silicon Valley executives.

But Lucas' original plan for a 60-foot-high Beaux Arts-style museum - and even a revised plan for a less-ornate, somewhat shorter building - met with strong resistance from people opposed to any development of the park site, as well as from backers of the competing plan by the popular parks conservancy. The location of an alternate site in the 1,491-acre national park was not disclosed.

"This is something that caught us completely by surprise," David Perry, a spokesman for Lucas, said of the latest offer for another site, at an undisclosed location closer to the Main Post.

"For four years, we have been told that the only site available for development is the Sports Basement site - and we have worked and reworked our plan to make it work," Perry said. "Now, literally in the past few hours, we hear there is an alternative site.

"We are intrigued," Perry said, but "a lot of other people have asked us to dance, and we will start calling them back." He may have been referring to Chicago, which wants Lucas to put his collection there. Lucas offered to build and endow the museum at Crissy Field, with construction alone estimated at $300 million.

The Crissy Field site is near the construction of the new Presidio Parkway, which will replace the 1930s-ear Doyle Drive approach to the Golden Gate Bridge with a roadway that will run partially through a set of tunnels now being built. One set of tunnels will be covered by a 10-acre "tunnel top park" connecting Crissy Field to the Presidio's Main Post.
