I just screwed the foot straps to my new Fanatic Ray, and the front edge of the fin lines up smack in the MIDDLE of the rear strap. I guess Patrics instruction is not good for Fanatic boards. Have to take a look at my JPs when I get to them. |

And your rear footstrap is at the most forward or back position? You must have choices. |

I can move it forward by 3 holes, but it still won't reach the front edge of the fin by a good inch. Take a look at the pic:

You might want to contrast the Starboard iSonic 117 Wood with the Fanatic.

While its got a Deep Tuttle finbox, you can see that it too seems to locate the straps further back in relationship with the fin. Of course, there are no photos depicting a straight-on rail view so that you can see the actual relationship between the straps and the fin, particularly showing forward and back positioning.
Still though, there seems to be a trend that differs from what Patrik Diethelm is doing. Diethelm is not alone in his design philosophy, because all of my Mike's Lab boards are that way. It could be that the widest designs these days dictate a more aft footstrap placement. If you look at the full range of iSonics, you will note that in the higher wind designs, the footstraps are further forward just as Diethelm highlights. |
