And you are doing something that hardly requires any skill.... (except if you are doing downwinders in 30 + mph winds which is becoming very popular) Plus out east you will not ever see anyone checking for PFD's like here in Hood River.. Another way to make money on tourists here during summer months... Don't be scared there are 4-5 yeaar old kids paddeling
every day on no wind days.. If you can stand up you can stand up paddleboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It does, however, require balance I don't have; standing up is difficult for me on anything but solid, level, stable, well-lit surfaces with minimal movement in my field of view. The PFD laws are heavily enforced in my neck of the woods (TriCities, where the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima Rivers meet). And I didn't buy it for no-wind days: I bought it first and foremost for swell, powered by paddle or sail. I fell off at least 30 times in my first 1-hour session ... in a swimming pool.
