And other times, the moderators will allow you to stay a member of a forum, when EVERYONE is requesting you be banned.
Think about that, Fick. |

I think Gingrich accurately settled that issue, Mean Girl. |

I don't think so, but that might be your opinion. He certainly had an opinion on every subject, as I recall, but for some, his advice was helpful. The flame wars between Wardog and him were hilarious, though. The reason I stopped visiting was because of the enormous amount of spam, porn and otherwise, that took over the group, so the S/N went way down.
Ahhh, the gold ol' days... |

Apparently not. Wardog kicked it off with his endless, baseless personal attacks on anyone and everyone, especially if they didn't use the gear he sold. That led to his ouster from the forum, according to those who stuck around after I left.
Oh, some people didn't like my willingness to debate WSing issues, but tough titties; I'm not going stay quiet while someone tells newbies the only way to put more pressure on the mastfoot is to walk forward and stand on it. Navy Captain "Frank" left the forum over that debate, but then Navy captains are usually control freaks, for good reason: ship commanders are not just the CO; they are God, lest discipline fail.
And many resented my willingness to join political discussions, but a) I was just paying attention to politics for the first time in my life (Lesson One) and didn't realize how intolerant the Left is of rational debate thereof (Lesson Two) and b) they and I discovered together that I was right of center, thus a racist (Lesson Three). |

Not sure what you mean by "ouster." I remember no such thing taking place, and since it's usenet, it would be impossible, for the same reason that porn and spam can't be banned.
That being said, I remember Wardog embarrassing himself a few times and some folks probably added him to their killfiles. rec.windsurfing soon became irrelevant to me because the S/N went way down, so I stopped following it. I do remember quite a few times when someone such as NLWTFW posted blatantly off-topic posts which, though labelled as such, shouldn't have been there in the first place, as if putting on your turn signal is a reason to cut someone off in traffic. Yeah, it helps, but it shouldn't happen in the first place. |

Which is more egregious ... posting something some people regard as off-topic or endlessly libeling people? |

I don't remember the OT posts specifically, but I think they got political. I also don't remember any libel being spouted, but I do remember nlwtfw getting called out on several issues including, but not limited to: 1) his view of the nazi state of California; 2) being the last hoele to sail (and piss on) Spreckelsville beach; 3) how you can't sail the Oregon coast because the sun's always in your eyes; and 4) how gorge swell is exactly the same as ocean waves. I do remember Wardog commenting on a few of those gems, but like I said, he embarrassed hisself in his own right. |
