I just shipped a 145 liter board via ForwardAir.com.
including the money order those idiots require it was 139 dollars and change.
all in all 16 dollars in bubble wrap and another 15 in tape Plus gas It was
$175!!!!!
not to mention The three hours of labor and taping!!

just think about that next time you ask if there's free shipping Or if the poor bastard is willing to split the shipping!

That is all

From what I've been told, if you can get a quote for under $200 thats a steal!

If you don't mind picking up from the terminal, Amtrak could sometimes be an option?

At the surf center that I work at (on the Canary Islands, Spain), we renew our kit every year. The previous years' kit we sell 2nd hand. This used to be really easy to get rid of the kit as it was cheap enough to take back to Europe. Now the airlines and postal services charge ridiculous ammounts to get windsurfing gear to the mainland and it gets ever more difficult to sell the second hand boards. It ends up being more local customers than tourists.

I shipped a board across the country from LA to VA for $67 last year on Amtrak. Check it out.

Steve is correct. AMTRAK Express provides terrific pricing if you are willing to investigate the particular station that accepts oversized items. Amtrak Express provides most major cities with oversize baggage delivery service, but not all offices may accept boards for delivery. A great idea will be to link the sending station with the most local station that accepts AmtraK EXPRESS deliveries.

I've shipped everything quite economically using Amtrak Express, from long SUPs to wide FW boards as well as long boom-length sails. Again, find the sending station, then confirm that the delivery station is AE. Good to go.

Another vote for Amtrak here. I used them to ship a set of wheels and tires from Oakland to Seattle a couple of years ago.
