Hi Gang,

If you vacation in Baja you might want to keep an eye on Amanda, the huge hurricane currently south of Baja but moving northward. So far it seems to be weakening but it is impacting the wind of the North Pacific High and the South Pacific High

Interesting Mike. Amanda surely does a lot of sucking according to one of the map... Why we are having a solid 30+ day lined up today in the SF Bay?

Hi Noel.

Yea Amanda does suck a lot of wind and pump into the atmosphere. But if you look carefully at the upper right quadrant of the image you can see that only about 5% of North Pacific High's winds that span the eastern Pacific are redirected towards Amanda.

And remember that those winds have long since zoomed past California and the Bay Area before being sucked towards Amanda. Plus Amanda has only been in existence for a few days.

Mike

Hey just heard an interesting stat, turns out that historically about twice as many people die in hurricanes with female names compared that those who die in one with male names-they speculate that people take fewer precautions because they may be lulled into a false sense of security because of the female name, or that they find a hurricane with a male name more fearsome!
