Funny that. "The market" seemed less sanguine 13 years ago when a few of those terrorists acquired upgraded transport and drove into their back yard. We can only hope that "the market" won't have cause to regret the type of myopic ignorance you ascribe to it.

Thanks for proving my point. As long as the terrorist threat does involve the mainland, the market won't care...at this point it's more a struggle for territorial rights, rather than setting up an al queda training ground.
Mr Gybe I only wish the previous administration took the threat as serious as the Ron Johnson chicken hawks of today.

Oh those inconvenient facts. Bush didn't want to be bothered with Al Queda, despite the bombing of the Cole and the first bombing of the World Trade Center. I had friends in the WTC that survived both bombings, and followed the testimony at the trial with some interest.

For those to whom facts matter: http://www2.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB147/

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/39622062/ns/us_news-security/t/us-failure-retaliate-uss-cole-attack-rankled-then-now/

It always amazes me how some people are seldom in doubt--but often wrong.

If we fast forward to today... Many want to obliterate ISIS- the Sunni group. Many of these people were the same Syrian rebels many were begging Obama to arm and support in an effort to thwart Assad. Now, if we blitz ISIS, we will be aiding Assad and Iran .

Those of us who were driving the streets of DC while the Pentagon burned, and saw what ON FIRE really means, are less cavalier than those who live in a place who's biggest worry is the price of Apple stock and the number of tourist cars that have been broken into. I suspect your colleagues in New York will also not share your dismissive attitude of the potential threat.

To suggest that the last Administration didn't take the threat of terrorism seriously is a quite astonishing statement.

To be sure a response comes back from mrgybe too quickly to have actually looked at the links. He can pretend that Bush didn't dismiss his National Security advisor specializing in Bin Laden's efforts before the second bombing of the WTC--but he is wrong. One of the reasons I goad him is that snaps out a tried and true talking point without pausing to reflect. Wrong again. But seldom unsure of himself.

Mr G if you want to go into the gutter, we can do that...I understand your angst given the man doing the most damage right now is a fellow countryman of yours. I lost three college bros who all worked for cantor..NYC is my hometown. Please. My commentary relates to the fact that the market, views today's events as regional, and yet if I read your posts, one might think the next 9/11 is next week! Astonishing? Mac points out that the August NSA warning in 2001 revealed the cavalier attitude of a couple cowboys. Richard Clarke also pointed out how little the bush transition team took the al queda threat. Astonishing... I agree, I am astonished.

The next 9/11 is next week........and it seems that you should know better than to dismiss ISIS as a few terrorists driving around in old Toyota pick up trucks. Stay in your cozy bubble and worry about the war on women. I'll keep an eye on the possibility of a real war.

Good idea... While your at it, try to figure out why 500 Brits taking up arms with ISIS, not an encouraging development.
