I have no idea what the PWA is doing adding Turkmenistan to the world cup.
How about somewhere that actually has windsurfers? Or even wind (averages 4-6 knots in the summer??)
See here

The event will be at the "Yelkin Yacht Club"
"There’s an airport at Turkmenbashi City, near Awaza, so none of the foreign guests will ever see much of Turkmenistan. The “Yelken Yacht Club,” with gates behind it to keep out Turkmenistan’s citizens, has been operating for a couple of years now and will be the viewing area for guests and media. The athletes won’t even be on Turkmen soil when they are competing. "

Sounds like same arguments about Sochi 2014 Olympics. Too South, too this, too that....Nothing is ready for guests...bla-bla-bla...
Nevertheless, it happened. Dogs bark, but the caravan moves on. |

The PWA faces a funding problem. They schedule events in places with sponsors like South Korea and had no event in Maui for six years.
They still only sail wave events here.
Turkistan had a sponsor, guys. |

Right obviously. Someone paid for it.
The President of Turkmenistan maybe ? He seems like a good guy to pal around with>
"Turkmenistan elects on national level a head of state - the president - and a legislature. The Elections in Turkmenistan have been widely criticized for being completely fraudulent and attempting to give an appearance of legitimacy to what is in reality a dictatorship. [1] Parties in Turkmenistan are the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan and the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. Both president and Assembly have a five-year term"

That'd be Kazakstan.
But, just for kicks I googled windsurfing Kazakstan and found 2 things...
1. There is actually windsurfing there (unlike Turkmenistan) -- there's even a video on youtube to prove it, complete with heavy metal soundtrack.
2. More interestingly, to me at least, and apropos of exactly nothing this came up>
Teh Google. |
