what wind speed could one plane in on the 11'8" with a 7.5 say 180lb rider ?

12 ? 15? mph just curious what would the minimal wind. how about if i had an 8.5m ?

i am leaning towards the 11'8".... but the kona is such a beautiful looking board.

At 220 lbs I can plane my 11'8" at around 15 knots with an 8M, it's hard to say exactly because who really knows how fast the wind is once you clear the shoreline and the board does not just pop on a plane from schlogging, it has various degrees of gliding but for me really planing, in the footstraps, probably 15 knots which would be 17.26 mph.
For you maybe 15 mph (13 knots), definitely not 12 mph. And you will need a really big fin.
Cool thing about these boards is the fast gliding, planing is not absolutely necessary.

I would you think this would compare speed wise to the kona, or an old fanactic mega cat? Sub-planning and planning? I would assume slower....but would it be really slower? If it could get up to plane quicker and in slightly less wind, would it put up a good fight?

inject the physique/technique variables, and get a large dose of "it depends." maybe better to ponder wind conditions. slightly lower, 11'8 higher? the kona one.

i know....just trying to get an idea on performance. I always start thinking of "BIG" stuff after weeks of no/little wind. I keep saying i will never get a 7.5m...and after a dismal summer last season...i got a 7.5. And now this August sucked...so now i am thinking...hmmmm...maybe that 8.5 or 9.0 isn't such a bad idea(and big board). BUt fall is coming...and the NW'rlys as well....need to dust off the 75L and 3.8 !!!!!
