I've been sailing since the late 1970's. Went to Punta San Carlos 6-8 times a year in the 80's/90's. I hadn't been down there for at least 12 years because of family.
I finally talked my 17 year old son into joining me on a trip back to PSC LAST WEEK! What a blast. He even sailed on a big wave day. He said it was the most fun he'd had sailing in his life. I can't tell you how happy that made me.
Even better was there was an epic swell, 6 cars on the bluff, and only a hand full of sailors at Solo Sports. The few people who were out were giving waves away!!! I remember times when there were 50 or more cars on the bluff. GET BACK THERE GUYS!!!!!! (And if you haven't been, do it before you're too old!) |

Seems like quite a few people are getting back into windsurfing after many years.
I remember many years ago at Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz, that there was a guy who was much older than the rest of us, and we used say 'I hope I'm still sailing when I'm 60! I'm now 71 and still sailing. Its like riding a bike, you dont forget. I know a German guy who spends the winter down in CapeTown South Africa. He's still going strong and carving perfect jibes at 85!

Good stuff. I will turn 50 next year. When I'm on the water I feel exactly like I did when I was windsurfing in my 20s. Now the next day is a different story but still not that bad! My goal is to sail as long as I can and get out every opportunity that I can. I regret taking the last 10 years off but I'm grateful I got back into the sport and plan on making up those missed days. Hopefully I'll still be out there in my 80s. I just got back from the Delta and I'm still smiling ear to ear. Now it's IPA time. Life is good! |

"Sailing Silverbacks"... I like it. Maybe we need t-shirts. |
