I just drank off half a bottle of wine and welded my boom...goobed some metal on it, then welded (somewhat) a sleeve on top of the break. Didn't do too thorough a job because the plastic boom end kept catching fire and setting off the smoke alarm (which pissed off my wife). Comments?

How long will it last? I'm hoping for at least two more sessions. Shocked

Did you dowell it first.
If you did, it can last until the other arm breaks.

was a plastic dowel in there, but it caught on fire when I tried to weld over it...I drilled it out. Let's see what happens.

Are you asking about the boom or your relationship with your wife? Smile

I'm guessing we will have an update on this thread in the near future.

Maybe involving a swim, a torn sail, a nasty cut, or even an unintentional visit to a foreign land. Very Happy

You've weakened both the metallurgy and the structural design of this system which was already engineered to do as much as it could within weight and cost limitations. I recommend that before you test it on the water you eat a good meal, file a flight plan with your buds and the Coast Guard, wear clean underwear, and stencil your name somewhere on your carcass. Very Happy

I admire your resourcefulness and resolve, however, I believe this to be faulty economy. Chinook will sell you one side of the boom (one arm) complete with grip. They just bolt right on; extremely easy to fix and right back to OEM specs.

I'm with Windoggie on this one. In fact you should disperse some
chum on you way out for an added thrill. ;*)
