Hello, I just got a harness and want to learn how to use it. I am 5'6" tall and weigh 138 lbs. The only harness lines I have were given to me. They are 18-24 reactive dakine lines. Can I learn on these or do they need to be longer? Any advice would be great. Thanks and take care.

Harness line length usage and recommendations range from 16 to 36 inches even among experts, and the world's leading proponent of one of those extremes changed his mind. The topic is often hotly debated here without resolution, as much depends on individual ergonomics. Set those puppies on 24, adjust your boom and height "as necessary" ... whatever that means ... and learn to use them. IF longer ones (NOT 36, IMO; maybe 26) are readily available and the price isn't an issue, experiment. Many of us experimented by using lines whose length is adjustable by where their knots are tied, but the picture is greatly muddled by the MANY variables in rig geometry, rig placement, your ergonomics, your preferences, and whether you drive a Ford or a Chevy.

The bigger issue at this stage is how to set and use them. I'm guessing Guy Cribbs' website addresses that. I got comfortable in the harness in one day by hooking in, stabilizing, unhooking, hooking in, stabilizing, unhooking, etc., all day long. It's a vital skill, well worth devoting as much time to it as it takes.

Length is fine, it's what I use, since 1984.
Should not work unless planing in the footstraps.
Yes, you can stand on tippy toes and balance in them while slogging, but it's a precarious balance at best.
