1st street in the Emerald Isle/Indian Beach area. There's a bit of a wind shadow to get through in a SW wind, but the sound is shallow almost everywhere around there and has zero current.

Other options are 11st street and 15th street. You just have to assess the parking options at any of these spots, but 1st street would work for sure.

There are other GREAT launches in the area, but are pretty much advanced intermediate and above... Radio Island and Shell Point on Harkers Island. You can get to world class conditions and shallow water from those launches, but you have to deal with areas of deep water and strong currents to reach them. Only go there if you know what you're doing, understand the preferred current/tide, and/or have a guide.

Hi, check with the folks at IBSCC and TBC. They're the "local" clubs and many of their members spend lots of time in that area.

And if you make it up towards Hatteras, be sure to swing by and say hello!

Lenthomasphoto,

I am a windsurfer who lives on Emerald Isle and sails regulary at numerous spots on the Crystal Coast. PM me for more information and hope to be able to sail with you and/or introduce you to several other local area windsurfers as well.

Chuck

P.S. My older "Windnc" moniker stands for "Wind and Sea". Hopefully this will help avoid confusion with previous poster Andy McKinney's "Wind-NC-Hatteras" (Wind-North Carolina-Hatteras) and his super windsurfing/SUP shop in Avon, NC.
