Heckscher State Park (NY) - weed fin?

i am thinking of taking my daughter to Heckscher - she needs a user friendly spot for practicing beachstarts, harness, and footstraps.

i was there once a year or two ago, and it was _very_weedy.

is it always that weedy?

is it weedy now?

Yup was there yesterday still weedy. For learning I would go to Napeague, it's a bit of a ride but no boat chop and shallow water.

It is very weedy in mid summer (july) where it sometimes feels like your sailing through mud. Now it isn;t too bad. weed fin is till a must...BUT you can get away with a regular fin if you were desperate to get out. Will pick up a few strands here and there. Weeds start going away in Sept(ish). and don't come back til late spring.
