"Caters"? They DEFINE "Left". That's why I believe and commend them on the rare occasions they actually report some news or express an opinion that puts the Right in a good light or puts the Left in a bad light ... and MAN have they done the latter a lot the past year or so, especially when they are forced to admit the truth days to weeks after getting scooped by Fox. (Fox, BTW, gives the NYT full credit on the rare times NYT scoops Fox.)

From Business Insider:

"Perry, who is looking at running for president in 2016, was indicted by a Texas grand jury on the allegation that he improperly tried to coerce a district attorney's resignation after she was arrested for drunk driving. Perry ultimately followed through in his threat to cut her agency's funding, which both Axelrod and Dershowitz have said was perfectly acceptable to do under Texas law.

"Unless he was demonstrably trying to scrap the ethics unit for other than his stated reason," Axelrod on Twitter Saturday, "Perry indictment seems pretty sketchy."

Speaking in a recent interview with Newsmax, Dershowitz, who reportedly calls himself a "liberal Democrat who would never vote for Rick Perry," declared he was "outraged" over the indictment.

"Everybody, liberal or conservative, should stand against this indictment," Dershowitz said. "If you don't like how Rick Perry uses his office, don't vote for him."

All correct, Alan Dershowitz is rarely, if ever wrong. However, this is Texas, a place known for its own legal system....pass the popcorn , please !

what is ironic is he is calling it a political game against him. When he made a political gme to get her out of office when he wanted to stop investigations going on about him. again if she resigned he would be allowed by state law to appoint anyone he wants.

Funny how right wingers did not demand the vice president of the US get a blood alcohol test when he shot his friend in the face. Specially when this vice president had been caught DUI how many times in his life. And for that matter the old sitting president was the first sitting president to have had a DUI. Remember the story of him being drunk in Washington running over garbage cans being obnoxious to pap Bush... That was an un-official DUI but real.

so to be gov of Texas seems you need to have been caught at least one time. again Bush was given an ultimatum to stop drinking and doing drugs or the wife was leaving him when he was in his youth, IE his 40s.

the threats is what I see as the problem, again he was doing it for political reasons certainly not moral as he is lying about with his sickening party of DUIs... Again you do not see the right wing press bringing up this fake moral outrage.

here are a few drunk republicans... note they do not resign unless a republican will replace them..

"We need to be as elected officials held to a higher standard," said Florida state Rep. Dane Eagle (R-Cape Coral) last month after sponsoring a bill that would require legislators to submit to drug testing.

Idaho Senator Michael Crapo was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence in a Washington, D.C., suburb, authorities said.
The Idaho Republican, who belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which prohibits its members from consuming alcohol, was pulled over in Alexandria, Virginia, after his vehicle ran a red light and failed a sobriety test.

On June 19, 2011, Ada County police officers arrested McGee for grand theft auto and driving under the influence. He had been playing golf at the 2011 Hillcrest Invitational golf tournament and drank at the golf course that night. He later stole an SUV attached to a utility trailer, drove it through a residential neighborhood, and jack-knifed the truck and trailer in a resident's front yard. At the time of arrest his blood alcohol content was reported at a .15, compared to the legal limit in the state of .08.[3] On July 1, 2011, McGee pled guilty to misdemeanor DUI. The felony theft and felony operation of a vehicle without consent charges were dropped. The court sentenced McGee to 180 days in jail, with all but five days suspended, serve three days community service and pay fines and restitution.[4]
On July 11, 2011, McGee, chairing a meeting of the Canyon County Republican Central Committee, created controversy when he cut off debate on a resolution calling for the investigation of the medical claims McGee raised as a defense to his criminal charges. McGee sent the resolution to an internal committee, which he also chairs, for review.[5] Several days later, on July 16, 2011, the Republican Central Committee for the State of Idaho approved a no-confidence motion on McGee.[6]
On February 22, 2012, McGee, submitted his letter of resignation to the Idaho State Senate, amid sexual harassment charges asserted by a female senate staffer.[7]
On August 21, 2012, McGee, pleaded guilty to probation violation and a disturbing the peace charge related to sexual harassment that occurred at the Idaho State Capital Building. Fourth District Magistrate James Cawthon sentenced McGee to 44 days in jail for disturbing the peace and 44 days for violating terms of his probation stemming from the 2011 drunken driving conviction.[8]

Court documents show Tallahassee Police first spotted Eagle (R-Cape Coral) pulling out of a Taco Bell on West Tennessee Street. He then made a U-turn in his black SUV, and police said he nearly hit a curb outside Papa John's before running a stoplight. After pulling him over, the officer reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Eagle told the officer he thought the stoplight was yellow.

Perry’s indictment called ‘suspect,’ yet he ignored Krusee’s drunk driving arrest
Is it? When examining Perry’s response to another highly visible lawmaker’s arrest for drunk driving in 2008, the facts show that perhaps his veto threat directed at Lehmberg may very well be political and an abuse of power after all. Republican State Rep. Mike Krusee was also arrested for a DUI in April 2008.

Former Wisconsin GOP State Senator Randy Hopper may have gotten his ass recalled from office for being one of Scott Walker’s union-busting Kochmonster rat minions, but don’t let this fool anyone into believing Hooper’s all tapped out when it comes to terrorizing innocent citizens. Perish the thought: Hopper was arrested Sunday afternoon for drunkenly careening down the highway in a black Suburban that was going “all over the road” according to the police dispatch. AND HERE YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE SAFE FROM RANDY HOPPER, WISCONSIN. That’ll show em.
Hopper was driving around with his 25-year-old right-wing lobbyist girlfriend, the same one that made Hopper’s then-wife join the recall election effort against him, because he’s a ball sack.

Anti-Gay California State Senator Comes Out After DUI Arrest
BY L.K. REGAN
Here's a piece of free advice: if you're a closeted gay politician with a firmly anti-gay platform, maybe you shouldn't have any cocktails at the gay bar lest you get arrested on a DUI on your way home and find that your private sexual practices are suddenly of immense public interest. That at least would appear to be the lesson to be learned from the example of anti-gay Republican California state Senator and alleged drunk driver Roy Ashburn.

Baja, what is your adolescent point anyway, that members of the GOP are nothing but a bunch of drunks, and that the democrats don't drink, or get drunk and drive cars into creeks killing aids in the process, or have room mates that run gay prostitution business from their apartments, or cheat on their wives, or smoke crack on camera, or get blow jobs in the White House, or post rude pics of their junk on line for all to see?
Is that what you are trying to sell?
Really?

My list is longer than your is, na-na na-na naa naaaaaaaaaa.

Pa-leeease.

point is he claims it is a witch hunt, BS it is well established that republican drunks stay in office. He even kept one under him and did lots of business with him. His entire act was partisan...

He is inferring some how he was above partisan and pulling a political thing.

That he and the right wing are holier than all and she should lose her elected position...... His big press conference claiming he is a victim is ludicrous. He brought it on himself with his trying to circumvent a elected official.

Now you should see my list of criminal right wingers. my gosh we can start with Nixon since it was his anniversary recently. Nixon is even a hero to the right wing to this day... Did you ever listen to some of his tapes, my gosh what a criminal.... sending the IRS on dems all over, paying off people who broke into dem headquarters,

Then we can go to the right wing the sexual deviants in there. I wish I had copied one that a liberal posted on a different board where he challenged the right wing to post the convicted liberal , which no right winger could. It was amazing how many right wing sexual deviants there were/are out there. the list was well over 100 of them.

since you are bringing up some other issues... well we need to determine which are worse to our satisfaction, I agree... we could start with the whore ronald reagun whose own flesh and blood kids did not vote for him. Imagine that your own kids would not vote for their father. that is how despicable of a human family values man slut serial adulterer ronald reagan a hero to the right wing was. and you wonder why his kids who knew him best for what a dispicable father he was. Family values

Or lets look at another right wing hero Sen Strom thurmond who raped his families teenage black housekeeper. To his death he not only never allowed his flesh and blood daughter to be seen in public with him and never had even a dinner with her. Not to mention his black grandkids. again right wing family values. what a piece of human filth he was and again he is a celebrated right wing hero for raping a teenage black girl.

Irrespective of the legal case, the conclusion for voters in 2016 seems clear. It appears that Perry tried to force out the attorney because she (and her Texas Public Integrity Unit) was getting in his way by investigating corruption at the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), and not because of her DUI as claimed by Perry:

- CPRIT, a "multi-billion dollar state-funded institution", was one of Perry's "signature projects" and in December 2013 "a top executive at CPRIT, Jerry Cobbs, was indicted in connection with how an $11 million grant slipped through the agency without formal or proper review. The grant went to Peloton Therapeutics, who had a large investor that also had contributed $440,000 to the campaigns of both Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst."
Improper practices at CPRIT had been suggested before, "in 2012 two Nobel laureates resigned from the cancer institute, amid concerns about the integrity of the institution’s grant procedures, suggesting politics were at play after funding was disbursed without review by the appropriate panel." (From http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/2014/08/rick-perry-indicted-on-two-felonies.html/)

- And if attorney Lehmberg had resigned, Perry would have appointed her replacement.

- And as mentioned by Pointster, he did not ask two other distract attorneys who got arrested (not sure it was for DUI) to resign.

In my opinion, this action disqualifies him from public office. By the way, the same goes for Cuomo in New York who appears to have done a similar thing.

That's Fox simply trying to bolster the validity of something they said that they realize the public would otherwise consider made-up foxshit.

When Fox "scoops" something, it's just dogshit off the sidewalk.

LDHR, they weren't 3 times the legal limit, spitting on cops, threatening their jobs, cursing, or spending 45 days in jail. They were run of the mill drunks..... Laughing
