I am not allowed to windsurf in both lakes by my town. I can understand the smaller lake. but the big one. I cant see why not! The forest cops got me at the smaller one. And at the bigger one it was the dnr. Ony fishing, and hunting boats are allowed. Should I talk to owner of the lake. talk to county comissiners. mayor, or file some kind of lawsuit, Or get petitions signed? Any thoughts! Or do I really have to move. |

You should point out that in numerous court cases around the country that windsurfers have been ruled to be vessels. Under equal protection, they cannot discriminate against your vessel.
In California they are non registered vessels. You could also circumvent this by getting CF numbers on your board. That would really confuse them. |

What you need to find out is what the issue or ban is based on. Most often it's centers on the fact that the lake water is used as drinking water and the available methods for water treatment prior to its use. The argument is based on preventing body contact, and the introduction of biological contaminants. If the conditions for treatment are questionable, or not up to safety regulations, your chances of success won't be in the cards.
In my area, Lake Cachuma is a large reservoir that is off limits to body contact. That means no windsurfing, kiting, SUP, waterskiing or swimming. It too bad, but it has to be remembered that the majority of the water that the Santa Barbara and Goleta areas drink comes out of Lake Cachuma. Fortunately for us, we've got the Pacific Ocean right there, so the restrictions at Cachuma aren't a game stopper for those of us that love active water sports. |
