Anyone else notice that the price for iWindsurf has gone up $20 from $100 to $120??

Nice that iWindsurf will give one a $10 loyalty discount but it is still $10 more than last year.. Sad

Can I at least get an iwindsurf t-shirt for that extra $20 please?? Smile

Gave up my paid iWindsurf membership years ago. Plenty of info on the web to figure out the wind. I don't miss it at all.

Those of you who use iWindsurf (or iKitesurf, or WindAlert) to check the wind either as free members or as paying members, we thank you.

Ben, we do try to keep the membership fee as low as we can. And we do everything we can to install our own premium weather stations in the best possible locations -- to give you the highest quality wind data available.

The truth is that maintaining our large network of heavy-duty weather stations costs a pretty penny. And as you can imagine, the cost of many of the components keeps going up. We work hard to give you the best value possible.

We appreciate your loyalty.

I'm astounded that they can provide what they do for the price. And not only do they provide real time wind data, they also provide daily forecasts and multiple updates for places that have no wind (like San Diego and Connecticut). Think about it, you can travel to Hawaii or the Gorge or the east coast and just click your phone and have the forecast and wind reports for those areas for the same $13 a month you pay at home.

Not only that, but there are NO WINDSURFERS, and of the few that sail, probably more than half won't even pay for the service.
As an example, I live in Southern California where you can literally grab a sail between 6.0 and 7.0 and windsurf over 50 days a year, 100 if you push it. Given this, there are only about 20 windsurfers in the Cabrillo area and probably another 20 up in Mailbu in a metro area of 10 million people. Kiters can't read (and all they need is 12 knts anyway) so that market doesn't work which begs the question: who is paying to keep Windalert in business? Government grants to provide wind sensors all over the country to study hurricanes and tornados? All I can say is that whomever keeps them in business is helping us out tremendously considering that gas hovers at $4/gal.

Yes, it would be horrible if iwindsurf didn't exist. Just the meters alone are worth the price. As you say 20 windsurfers for 10 million people. Windsurfers are probably .0001 perscent of the population, maybe even less. Sorry to say, and the numbers decrease every year.

You can always make money but you can't make time has been said before.
This service give us the means to plan how to best spend our time.
It is a high quality service and, IMO , well worth it's current price.
Thank you Iwindsurf !

I would agree more wholeheartedly if I saw more progress on replacing the one and only sensor in all of iW's global network that I study every potentially breezy to windy day. Is it really that tough to plop a solar powered self-sufficient sensor on federal, state, or city recreational land to replace the destroyed Arlington sensor?

I'm unaware one could agree more (or less) wholeheartedly. Isn't that like writing that one is "a little bit pregnant? Wink
