2014 San Francisco Bay Speed King Event is now in full swing with 28 sessions posted so far. Scores are very close with only 0.01kt difference between fourth and fifth place. Two more weeks left, so plenty of time to improve...
Haskins appears to be the most popular place so far, with Sherman Island being second most popular.
So far winds have been light as expected, mostly 7.0 to 8.6 conditions.
Some of the fastest sailors from Candlestick are yet to post their sessions, probably looking for that killer day.....or still shopping for speedos? They can be hard to find....
Tuesday wind forecast is looking good for Bay Area. Would SW wind work good at Haskins???

Not sure if Haskins works on SW. I think definitely doable. I suspect Pyramid Lake must be cranking today as Reno is showing 28-35mph winds... flat water and 35? hmmmm....

Pyramid Lake was perfect today for a nice long walk at the beach. Occasional gust swirling around randomly is all the wind we got. Not enough to justify getting wet. Wino beach was packed with windsurfers; three of us. That is about as many as I've ever seen at Pyramid Lake.
It's getting crowded Smile Smile Smile !!!!

Sorry to hear this. Long drive for a skunk... Why I keep the fishing gear in the van! No speedos today...

Is there a particular time of the year when more chances to catch some good wind at Pyramid? The spot is splendid and fishing is great as well :

Wind is quite unpredictable there but I don't mind spending a day at the beach, windy or not. There is something magical about it. Sunset was just spectacular tonight.
I think April and May is the windiest time but no guarantees. If forecast shows SW or W, 20-40 mph or better and sunny, there is 90% chance for good session.
This happens about 5, max 10 times per year.

Only 5-10 times a year?? Damn no wonder why you've been going to San Fran!

Hey, where's that Pyramid Lake? The photo is definitely not the Pyramid Lake on the Grapevine north of Los Angeles! Is it near the Bay Area? Google Maps not helpful, I think it's sensing my location.

North of Reno, NV. High desert. Beautiful desolate place.

Camp/ RV right on the water (one side of the lake) like at Lake Isabella.

Don't tell the guy I work with that it only blows a few times a year. He & his buddy were paddling in a raft & the wind picked up, tumbled them multiple times & blew them on to Anaho Island. They ended up camping on the island that night and waited till morning to paddle back to the west shore. Never again he says. Laughing

Interesting since also encountered SOLID wind the first and only time I visited Pyramid (this past July)... Strong enough wind that blew my tent across the beach, into the lake... Smile

10 times/ year may be a bit conservative? Wish we had a reliable sensor there...
