Canoe Travelers down columbia

While SUPing just before dark night before last ran into two guys in a heavily laden canoe right off Rowena park. They are traveling from Vantage to Portland, camping along the way and portaging around dams. They had already been on the river 15 days. the heavily laden canoe was not moving very fast.

Nice fellas but it was not clear how much experience they had in wind or with the gorge. I cautioned them about the wind expected today and water conditions they would encounter. they seem willing to wait out the wind, and obviously won't make much headway in the corridor anyway.

they should be around hood river today, so if you see them on the water, take a break to visit with them as they are interesting and please give them the heads up on the weather outlook and guidance on where they might camp to wait things out.
