Pro-Kremlin bloggers had prepared a Twitter campaign, #DemocracyRIP, on election night ...

And Russian diplomats "were prepared to publicly call into question the validity of the results" had Secretary Clinton won in November 2016 (see page 33). {aka. They had more “active measures” in the works, assuming Trump lost.}
Quote:

Here are a few more notable factoids, published in the recent Intelligence Report on Russian Interference — that got washed away in the daily malstroms, otherwise known as Trump on Twitter steroids. (At some point the Media’s infatuated co-dependency with the Tantrum Tweeter, has got to just say No. No more throwing away important news, to cover the patented “Trump Outrage of the Day.”)

Four Florida county election systems were infiltrated by Russia, Senate committee confirms

Quote:
The ongoing saga of Russia's hacking of Florida elections systems is back in the news. The new report on Russia's interference in the 2016 election from the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, which contains the blockbuster news that all 50 states were targeted by the Russians, also suggests that four Florida counties were infiltrated, as opposed to the two that were revealed earlier this spring in former special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

Earlier in the year, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, who is on the SSCI, confirmed that two counties were hacked. It seems that Rubio would be in a place to know that it wasn't two, it was four, since he's on the committee that discovered that, but maybe he was too busy finding Bible verses to tweet out every day to pay attention to what Russia did to his state. It's not just Rubio, though. Then-governor and now-Sen. Rick Scott insists that, while the "report says the feds repeatedly warned the state about potential hacks," he knew nothing about it at the time and didn't find out about it until he went to the Senate. That seems, shall we say, unlikely.

He remains unworried, it appears. He told Chuck Todd on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday that he hadn't read the SSCI report. He continues to imply that Russia infiltrating Florida county voter systems in an election year was not a thing, which was apparently the official line of his administration as governor. While "evidence mounted in 2018 that Russia had hacked into local election offices […] Scott's administration doubled down that hacking didn't take place in Florida—including in a conference call with Senate Intelligence Committee staff."

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/8/17/1879691/-FEC-chair-to-Trump-prove-your-allegations-of-voter-fraud-or-shut-your-lie-hole?utm_campaign=trending

FEC chair to Trump: prove your phony voter fraud claims or shut your lie-hole

Quote:
FEC Chair Ellen Weintraub has had it with Donald Trump’s half-baked paranoid fantasies about voter fraud. So she’s asking him once again to prove that he was robbed in the 2016 election — an accusation he continues to level despite “winning” the election by a commanding margin of minus-3 million votes.

During his latest Nuremberg rally, Trump perpetuated the lie that he would have won New Hampshire in 2016 if not for massive voter fraud. It’s anyone’s guess where he came up with this idea, though when he doesn’t provide footnotes it’s a pretty safe bet that his two primary references are 1his rectum and 2ibid.

And while the chance of Trump responding to Weintraub’s letter are about the same as my giving up weed while we still have a methed-up howler monkey swinging from priceless chandeliers in the White House, I applaud her for sending it.

Here it is, followed by a full transcript in legible type for any of you lucky enough to be afflicted with a fake glaucoma diagnosis.

Quote:
Mr. President,

Back in February 2017, when you first alleged a voter-fraud scheme of astonishing scale in New Hampshire in 2016, I publicly called upon you to provide your evidence to the American people and the appropriate law-enforcement authorities so that your very serious claims could be investigated. I followed up in March 2017 with a letter to you repeating my request.

You have not, so far, provided any proof of these allegations.

Last night, you repeated your claim: “New Hampshire should’ve been won last time,” you told reporters before your rally, “except we had a lot of people come in at the last moment, which was a rather strange situation, thousands and thousands of people, coming in from locations unknown. But I knew where their location was.” During your rally, you told the crowd that New Hampshire was “taken away from us.”

What I wrote to you in March 2017 is just as true now: Our democracy depends on the American people’s faith in our elections. Your voter-fraud allegations run the risk of undermining that faith. Just as seriously, baseless allegations of fraud have been used to rationalize indefensible laws that deter certain U.S. citizens from exercising their right to vote. Words matter, and facts matter.

The American people count on me, as the Chair of their Federal Election Commission, to protect the integrity of our elections. So I ask you, once again, to provide any evidence you may have to the American people and the appropriate law-enforcement authorities to substantiate your claims. The American people are ill-served when our leaders put forward unfounded allegations of voter fraud.

To put in terms a former casino operator would understand: There comes a time when you need to lay your cards on the table or fold.

Republicans block FEC probe of NRA's Russia money and Trump

Ellen Weintraub, chair of the FEC, talks with Rachel Maddow about the resistance by her Republican colleagues to allow so much as a phone call to the FBI to inquire about an investigation into whether Russian money donated to the NRA was for the Donald Trump campaign.

Oversight panel sues William Barr, Wilbur Ross over 2020 census documents
"President Trump and his aides are not above the law," says Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney.

The House Oversight and Reform Committee filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to enforce the panel’s subpoenas seeking information about the Trump administration’s failed efforts to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.

“I am filing this enforcement action today because the Trump Administration’s brazen obstruction of Congress must not stand,” said Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), the chairwoman of the Oversight Committee. “President Trump and his aides are not above the law.”

Story Continued Below

The 85-page lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, comes a day after House Democrats won a major victory in their months-long fight to secure testimony from former White House Counsel Don McGahn.

Story Continued Below

The suit is an indication that Democrats believe their hand has been strengthened by the victory in the McGahn case as they seek documents related to other subpoenas that the Trump administration has defied.

The House first voted to enforce the subpoenas in July, formally holding Barr and Ross in contempt of Congress for defying the committee’s subpoenas seeking information about the administration’s ultimately unsuccessful efforts to add a citizenship question to next year’s census.

The Justice Department declined to prosecute Barr or Ross for flouting the requests, arguing that the information Democrats were seeking was protected by executive privilege.

Maloney’s lawsuit seeks copies of memos and correspondence related to allegations that the Trump administration’s effort to add a citizenship question to the census was based on political considerations, rather than its publicly stated effort to enforce the Voting Rights Act.

In a statement, a Commerce Department spokesman said the lawsuit “lacks merit” and asserted that the department has cooperated with “overzealous ”House Democrats.

The Supreme Court blocked the Commerce Department from adding the controversial question in June, handing Democrats another legal victory as they argued that the question would suppress congressional representation in communities of color.

President Donald Trump ultimately backed down from the effort after the Supreme Court’s ruling.

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/the-third-time-year-gop-rejects-election-security-bill?cid=eml_mra_20191212

For the third time this year, GOP rejects election-security bill

Quote:
Over the summer, a pair of senators – one Democrat and one Republican – partnered on a new election-security proposal called the Defending Elections from Threats by Establishing Redlines (DETER Act). The idea behind Sens. Chris Van Hollen’s (D-Md.) and Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) bill was pretty straightforward: if U.S. intelligence agencies were to determine that Russia interfered in another federal election, new sanctions would kick in targeting Russia’s finance, defense and energy sectors.

The point, obviously, would be to create a disincentive, letting the Kremlin know in advance that Russia would face significant economic consequences if Moscow once again attacked our democratic institutions.

The bill picked up a bipartisan group of co-sponsors, and it seemed like the sort of proposal that might even have a chance in the Republican-led Senate. At least that was the hope before it was blocked yesterday on the Senate floor. Axios reported:

A Republican senator is blocking bipartisan legislation meant to counter foreign election interference, saying it is more anti-Trump than anti-Russia.

Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) objected Tuesday when Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) sought consent to pass the DETER bill, as reported by The Hill…. The stalled legislation comes as U.S. intelligence agencies predict Russia and other foreign countries will attempt to interfere in the 2020 election.
