Have an old set-up for ice/snow. Found the plans in New England Windsurfing Digest awhile back. The combination ice and snow on Lake Champlain have been great this year for this board.
The set up uses old skies rather than blades, without snow covering it is uncontrollable on the ice. |

New England's hard core group of iceboard sailors are having a great end of the season blowout on ICE!
This past "Wicked Windy Wednesday" with gusts to 40 knots, I slightly beat my old World Record speed with a new 52.70knot 10 second run!
Max speed at 55.2 knots!
And this was done in less than 1/2 mile...30 sec each run....or nearly crash off the ice..WOW!
Long Pond Cape Cod continues to be good for maybe another weekend.

Ice? ICE? You mean the immigration cops? Dude, I live not far from the Canadian border, and we haven't even had cold weather, let alone ice, yet this winter except for one dry week around freezing way back near Thanksgiving. The flowers and shrubs are in full bloom, been using sunscreen to work outdoors, the wife's been mowing the lawn for many weeks, highs in the 60s and some 70s for over a month, the River is barefootable today ... what's this ICE $#!+?
I KNEW I left upstate New Yawk for a reason. |

if you guys sail on ice like that, it is not just the ice that is "cracked"
i live in the Great White North and NEVER get black ice
too much white stuff or ice just never solidifies that nicely...
so, it is less about speed and more about FUN and TOW
here TOW means time outside in the winter

building my own sleds is part of the fun too
now waiting for snow to melt to give us more slippery conditions !!! |

What the 'F' do mean by that comment???
Why? Do you think the ice is dangerous for some reason?
Well, it IS, no matter how smooth or sealed up the plate gets!
This ice was moving and cracking at the edges due to the strong 40 mph winds pushing 1 square mile solid plate around, ice is 12" thick!
Enjoy your snow sailing! |
