Ha! Four pages and 40 replies on how to jibe. In what other riding sport is it so complicated to turn around. Snow boarding, skiing, skating, skate boarding, biking, kite boarding? Nope. All boring! Gotta love windsurfing. No end to the learning curve.

But one thing that helped me out back in the day....is to keep your head up. Look up and out.

Yes! Dasher says keep your head up and outside the turn. I find this helps keep your weight over the carving rail, and prevents the torso from overly leaning in. For duck jibes I was taught (by Andy Brandt) to look forward and zone out*. Looking at the sail is always a mistake. "Only look at the sail when you buy it and when you rig/derig it." (ABK)

one more thing...once you get the jibes nailed ....it doesn't matter where you are looking. I tried a couple with my eyes closed....that was freaky...

That works too...we tend to keep our head and upper body still with our eyes closed, using our sense of the board and sail to know what's going on. I met an instructor in Hatteras once who said jibing at night was easier for some people.

*There is a duck jibe school that says look at your clew as you reach for it, particularly if you're cranking a tight duck. It's great fun, but not how to learn the DJ.)
