Interesting Boardsurf. I find similar with freeride boards.
As an Exocet fan (3 of them) I was initially disappointed with a Cross 11 94 litre with its standard Exocet 'flexi' fin. An expensive thin foiled MFC fin (fine in a different board) didn't 'light it up' yet an old 28 cm Stix stiff and thicker G10 worked wonders. (8 out of 10)
A Syncro 104, on the other hand, which came with a stiff carbon 32 fin felt equally disappointing (stiff and locked in) yet a slightly smaller cheaper 'flexi' fin put the 'zing' into that.(Again, 8 out of 10)
My Exo Cross 111 84 litre board on the other hand, thrives with a standard J.P. FSW 84 fin, but the older Exo Cross 118 feels spot on (6.0 sail in light wind surf) with its 'cooking' flexi original fin.
A black art indeed, and, it seems, trial an error is necessary to produce that 'happy chappy' contentment that all dedicated winsurfers deserve to feel. |
