Getting away from Mac reciting the DNC talking points of the day.
I have mixed feelings about this, surely it will improve many peoples lives but there are two issues, first these low end jobs are not meant for a career. It used to be we took these jobs as kids to learn how to work then moved on but now it seems people are trying to raise families on this with lot's of handouts from the Gov't. Maybe a lot of these people are illegal aliens and shouldn't be here anyways but many are not.
And then there is the prediction that restaurants will have to charge a lot more and won't stay in business and the cashiers will be replaced with self serve computers as has been done in Europe reportedly.
Personally I say let them have the $15 and let the chips fall. People eat too much fast food and if it's more expensive and people eat less that's not such a bad thing and if there aren't as many fast food jobs hopefully those workers will be pushed into something with a better career path.
There you see Beaglebigot does have a heart, AND HE DOESN'T RECITE THE PARTY LINE ECHO CHAMBER. Idea

Well once upon a time (every good fairy tail starts out this way) these jobs were meant as a means to provide an income while working towards more substantial career. Now with jobs being hard to come by some people are finding this is the best they can do. Let's face it, nobody can live on $8 an hour. One thing is certain though, the price of a cheese burger is going up.

JP..spot on...burgers are more expensive. Why is that? they are better. McDonald's pays 7.25/hr, and the result : a $1 cheeseburger thats been under a heat lamp for three hours when you purchase it. Over at In-N-Out burger, the pay is 11.75/hr, the burger is $3.25 and its better. The employees work there for 4.5X the average stay of a McD's worker, and the profit margin is much higher. San Francisco has had a higher minimum wage for a while, and the restaurants here are the most profitable in the country...and the best.

Surely you meant to say that SF restaurants are the best in the world didn't you? Pleeease! Anyway, to return to rationality, the root of the problem lies in the much touted drop in unemployment which, contrary to the trumpeting from the WH (and here) is not an indication of economic strength. It is an indication that many have dropped out of the workforce and many more have settled for low wage jobs which traditionally have been taken by young people who are in, or are straight out of school. In part, that is why household incomes have dropped significantly during this President Obama's tenure. If his Administration had focused on creating decent jobs, and not on making a career out of jobs that the unemployed have been forced into, and are way below their capabilities, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I do recall that a Prez Obama campaign promise was to provide jobs rebuilding the crumbling infrastructure in our country. I don't see where that much was done in that regard.

I think, if I remember correctly, that SF restaurants charge an extra tax on the bill to help pay for health care for those who cannot afford it. I think this is a nice idea of a community taking care of it's own.

Why $15 per hour? What's wrong with $20 per hour, or $30?
Where do you draw the line?
How long would $15 be acceptable? A month?

It's like that CEO guy in Seattle who is going to give all his employees $70k minimum a year because he feels it's the fair thing to do.

In no time he will find out just how many slackers he has under his employment.
Why work any harder if you know you will get $70k anyway, it's human nature. It will work for awhile, but not for very long once the employees figure out what they can now get away with............... slacking.
The production rate of his company will eventually drop because of that.
Socialistic countries have low production rates precisely because of desire to make everything fair for everybody. It's a slackers dreamland.

Yes, they do JP. And it works.
Mr G..In the country. Paris has the best restaurants in the world.IMO. The main reason the infrastructure projects haven't launched is that house Repubs want any bill to be revenue neutral.

But, but, but...I thought private enterprise created jobs, not the government?

You don't know shite. Come back and give your opinion after you start and run a successful company for over ten years that now employees over 100 people and paid you a salary of one million dollars per year. Did you know the company already had an unlimited paid vacation policy? Oh, the horror.

I started a general contracting company back in 1976, which turned out to be very successful. I went thru many employees, some of them stayed with me for a very long time because I rewarded them for a job well done, giving them a reason to work effectively. I'm now happily semi-retired thanks to my efforts and my many loyal employees and sub-contractors.
Come back after you graduate high school and know how to spell shit.
