Does anyone have an idea what the chances are that NC12 will flood this week? The forecast predicts 40+ mph NW winds. If the direction was NE, I'd bet we'd see at least some flooding, but what about NW? The waves may still get high, and the road is darn close to the ocean at S curves.
We're due to drive down for ABK camp on Saturday, but could possibly leave tomorrow.

My brother lost his car 20 years ago on a spring trip. 90mph west wind in the back side of a march blizzard pushed all the water out of the sound over the island. Glad I missed that year. 40 doesn't sound too bad.

The chance of route 12 flooding is about the same as being hit by a meteor, please find something else to be an issue.
Please bring lobsters.

LOL, I was hit by a "Hattera Meteor" about 5 yrs ago during a strong W wind where sound water was just below the door of my old '89 4runner driving from N Avon through to Oregon Inlet! Took about 6 hrs to drive that distance at about 3 mph! Felt bad for the guy in his $95,000 Mercedes who was in the same situation as me...

You felt bad for a guy in a Mercedes...
It's a no wind day, it's a Marguarita day, my guests from Wellesley and Hingham make a mind numbing concoction ..
But for the forecast we can sleep in tomorrow.
North, north east wind next 3 days, it's magic here in Frisco.
PS bring lobster and silver Patron

I have had a couple of near misses with the NC12 meteor, too. IIRC, there also was some minor road flooding at least once during the time we were down there. The attached image from the NC12 Facebook site does not inspire confidence. And then, there is the idea of actually sailing in 30-35 mph NNE winds...

If in doubt, head down a day earlier and stay at one of the cheap motels in Buxton - it eliminates the mental stress factor. Also, if you're coming down over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel - watch the wind forecast for that area - they won't allow vehicles with car top carriers (with boards) over the bridge if winds a gusting over 25-30 mph. And that is a major detour if you have to go inland to get around the bridge.

Is someone really serious about flooding ? Why ?
If all else fails take the ferry.
Buxton seafood is kinda far1.5 mile away. Afraid to drive as it may flood.

Because flooding can cause pretty substantial delays, and even road closures.
And because it's much more likely than being hit by a meteor. NC12 was flooded at least 7 times in 2014, and closed due to flooding at least twice.
And because at least one of the computer models has predicted wind above 40 mph at about the same time as high tide tomorrow evening. Some runs had NNE-NE winds, others NW, so there seems to be a lot of uncertainly in the prediction.

That was the idea (actually, 2 days earlier to get there before the wind). Avoids any potential problems and ferry rides, and may even give us a couple of decent sailing days. The forecast looks a bit weak after Saturday.
Thanks for the warning about the bridge, Rob - we got caught there once, so we always check now.
