$400 for a 7yo board, not this one, is not out of line.
Smaller boards often are sold for less, due to lack of demand in some areas.
As are boards that are quirky and never were popular when they came out.
Someone wrote if you can get the 400$ use from it go for it
OTOH it may be Motrin headache nr400

I was curious what people thought about how, in general, painting a board devalues it. Assuming $400 (or whatever price) is fair for that board in average used condition, my thinking is it's maybe worth half the non-painted price given it's unknown history and nothing visible is original. I've never bought a repainted board, and I guess it's quite rare (although I see painted Equipes for sale). |

The issue is not that it's painted it's why?
Is this a board that you need or is its $ attractive, and you now have interest _________________ K4 fins

I don't need the board...I keep telling my wife that what I need is a carbon Freemove. |

So, the structure , is not the issue, it is that it's been painted.
I for one would be curious how it works out _________________ K4 fins

If I were unsure what to look for then I wouldn't buy a board that has extensive work done on it.
It's also a hassle to sort out proper gear, imagine sorting out that may not be right to start with. It doesn't need much to ruin the dynamics of a hull.
Maybe you can test ride it?
You need to press hard on the areas that are prone to delam and make sure there's no longer any soft spot. The hull shape needs to be "normal" but it takes an experienced eye to notice issues. _________________ *NEW* - Manu's Windsurfing Blog, The STORE! |

It could be that the whole repaint and finish thing could be due to something catastrophic like flying off the car. Pretty hard to fix a board that been beat up and scraped badly by the road or something worse. Restoring the original look would most likely be too difficult and costly to pull off. The upside is that the repair had nothing to do with failure through use on the water. |

Might be good or might not. I would not buy it. Maybe for $200. Would you buy a used repainted bondoed car you know nothing about? Any wide fast old board has had its share share of chop fatigue. Gotta have soft spots. Try to get it for much less and not before weighing it. |

Check to see that there is a serial number. That's one potential reason.
But even with a great finish job, you should be able to pick apart a major repair.
I've repainted board before when there original started to look beat
I would buy it if it looked felt solid to a close eyeball, and there was an intact serial number probably right aft of the mast track _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=zw0MgkO7VXw |
