Forget about the ocean. It wasn't the focus of my original question, but some folks here are eagerly looking for an ocean versus Gorge argument. Maybe I indulged them a bit, my apologies for that. Still though, I have repeatedly tried to bring the discussion back to the importance of recognizing launch site wind direction at the Gorge. It certainly isn't an onshore wind orientation that has been claimed in this thread. With the wind coming from the west or east, the windsurfers are sailing generally north and south from one side of the river to the other. While folks move a bit up and down the river to take advantage of the swell, they still generally adhere to the north/south sailing orientation to stay in the best swell zone.
My original question still stands. Again, let's forget about the ocean and all the anxiousness and sensitivity that comes to the surface when contrasting it with the Gorge. Let's make this strictly about the Gorge and what makes it special. |
