Forecasts are just guesses. Two days in advance is fairly accurate. More than that is a weather guess. Bring some gear. Never give up on the gorge wind machine in the summer. |

Hi Kevin.
Forecasts more than 2 day out for wind are often guesses. But 3-5 day forecasts for heat waves are far more accurate since they are not impacted much by topography and happen over a far larger scale.
In normal times a forecast for a heat wave in the Gorge means pretty zero to dismal winds until the heat breaks and we see a marine surge.
However, these are not normal times. Starting last year and continuing this year including today we have been seeing significant winds even during heat waves. Check out the Gorge heat and wind forecasts for tomorrow and you will see what I mean.
So I would wait and see how the next 2 days play out heat and wind wise and make your final decision.
Contact me just after dawn when you get here and I will give you window reports each day for the Hatch to Viento.

Check the pressures, if there's a big high offshore and low pressure inland it will blow. Add in cool temps on the coast and hot inland it will blow. Add them both together and it will really blow. Needless to say we have a big high pressure sitting off the Oregon coast so all together class.....it will blow!

I hope it will blow |

Check Temira for daily forecasts and other news (and her personal headspace, FWIW).
When you say you're wondering whether to bring gear, I assume you mean the alternative is to rent gear here? Cuz you're gonna want gear, one way or another. And bring your bike too. |

Get as much sailing in as you can, Kevin. It's going to shut down all next week. I have paid for the freestyle clinic, paid for camping at Memaloose, and given all my lucrative work to my co-worker for the week of 7/5 to 7/11. Talk about all the ingredients in the recipe for no wind! |
