Local guy has had a both knees replaced. He windsurfs and plays tennis and he is pain free.. Did I mention that he is 85 years young...

I started to experience knee pain about 2 years ago in my right knee. Then an injury to my left knee compounded the problem. For about a month I could barely walk, in 2 months I felt slightly better but still in some pain. Ice, Ibu's and elevation helped some, cortisone shots helped a lot and got me thru last summer of windsurfing. This year I am getting injections of a lubricant called Euflexxa which helps but is not the cure. Eventually I will need both knees replaced. A friend, who could barely walk, just recently had knee replacement surgery and is windsurfing well and not in any pain. Her advice to me was not to wait.

My brother had his replaced after years of pain. Windsurfer/basketball player. After a year of recovery with treatment and more injections and no relief, he had to have it done again. Better the second time but not pain free...
