Excellent point. |
You believe in the rule of law???....but you're okay with genocide, murder, and terrorism......that's who Iran is, nitwit. And we empowered them with more cash.
Why don't you explain that to the people of Syria who are getting murdered daily by the thugs in Iran.....Great idea, lets give the most criminal regime on the planet billions so they can keep on killing.. |
Too funny your argument. We removed nuclear materials and devices to make them that set back their program by some 20 years for having massive nuclear arms.
The trump doctrine has put them back on the direction of making massive nukes as well as any other country in the world with authoritarian rulers. The damage trump has done for non-nuclear non-biological and chemoical weapons of these types of nations is forever. The cost of defending ourselves has now escalated to unknow bounds and no known way to protect ourselves except bankrupt us in military spending.
No country in this world will now care except canada and Mexico (because it with cause destruction of their nations too. No one will care if we are destroyed by say NK with say 7-10 high altitude explosions EMP that will destroy america for which she use to stand for. Just like you do not care about any other country except your trust fund money, well now nearly every nation in the world does not care about the USA.
Trump has brought our approval rating down as a nation to only a handful of nations that trust us or respect us. My guess is russia, Philippine, and North Korea leaders are the only ones that like trump. _________________ when good people stay silent the right wing are the only ones heard. |

Again, not "billions" - $1.7 billion and the money was not a gift, it was owed. Please cite the legal authority which would have permitted the US to retain Iran's money. You can't because Iran and the US agreed to submit the dispute to a tribunal pursuant to the Algiers Accords. Your posistion is that validly enacted agreements and procedures should be ignored?
President Reagan confirmed the Algiers Accords, and the constitutionality of these arrangements was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in Dames & Moore v. Regan.
Ronnie returned returned $3 billion to Iran under the Algiers Accords.
"The major issue between the two governments was a $400 million payment for military equipment made by the government of the Shah of Iran, prior to the 1979 uprising that topped him. The U.S. banned delivery of the jets and other weapons amid the hostage crisis, but froze the $400 million advance payment. “The Pentagon handled arms purchases from foreign countries,” says Gary Sick, a former National Security Council official who served as the principal White House aide for Iran during the Iranian Revolution and the hostage crisis. “Defense took care of the details. So the $400 million scheduled purchase was a government-to-government transaction. The U.S. government was holding the money. That’s why it was so difficult to resolve.”
By 2015, the issue stood before a panel of nine judges, including three independent jurists, who were reportedly near a decision on binding arbitration. According to Obama administration officials, the U.S. was concerned that the tribunal would mandate an award in the multiple billions of dollars. “The Iranians wanted $10 billion,” says Sick.”I estimate that the tribunal would have awarded them $4 billion. That’s what the lawyers were saying. It’s not as much as they wanted, but a lot more than we paid.”
So instead, the U.S. negotiators convinced Iran to move the dispute from arbitration to a private settlement. The two sides reached an agreement in mid-2015, at the same time as the U.S. and Iran reached a comprehensive pact on curtailing Iran’s development of nuclear weapons. The financial deal called for the U.S. to refund $1.7 billion to Tehran, consisting of the original $400 million contract for military equipment, plus $1.3 billion in interest."

So explain to me Mat-ty - what legal basis was there to refuse to return the money? |

Take a current event, twist it up.
Create talking points to be distributed across the usual mediums-Fox News, Breitbardt, Drudge, etc.
Talk about it a lot!
Accept it as fact.
Ignore the truth..
Rinse.
Repeat. |

You're kidding right? You are dumber than Eric Trump. A braindead Georgia Republican is your backup? Please please please do a little reading and take the time to study , and watch a current event unfold, rather than get directed to it by Sean Hannity, after which the handlers will have twisted and contorted it into something that it is not.

Resting your case on a "half-truth". Nice.
Still waiting for you to tell me the legal authority that would allow the US to keep Iran's money. |
