Steve... when a finished good arrives in the US from China, the importing company pays the US govt a tariff.. That company then has to recoup that cost. They either raise the price on the retail end, or eat the cost at the margin .. China sees a reduction in exports because the margin erosion reduces the profitability of the entire transaction . Tariffs are crushing the steel industry , hitting housing, retail, and semiconductors .. |
