Ron, we plan to sail at Oregon Beach in Cotuit today. We'll start around 10 am to catch the low tide. Looks like it is quite shallow there, so I'm hoping that the conditions will be similar to Kalmus in SSW at low tide.

Left work and went for it while I had the chance.
Rolled the rubber off the wheels, spinning so fast in and out of Kalmus after seeing barely a breeze.
Oh well, I wanted to try out my new alias!

Saw the breeze twice today. Even measured 16-18 on the wind meter, which would have been just fine for the 7.5 and big slalom board. But as soon as I hit the water, the wind dropped. First at Oregon Beach around 10:30, then at Craigsville at 12:30.
But Oregon Beach will be re-visited in SE wind. Knee- to hip-deep water for a at least 1/2 mile out makes it a nice freestyle playground at low tide; mid tide should be fine, too. It possibly decoupled a bit today, but with stronger wind or sunshine, it should be fine.

The West Dennis meter seems to read higher than the wind is. Atleast that was the case yesterday, SE wind. At one point ( not sure of the time ,between 12 and 1) it said average18, but not a whitecap ,on the water, and not 18 at the edge of the water. I was wondering, if the meter is on a roof, the upsloping of the roof would cause this. The same effect you feel when walking toward the water on a beach , and when you get to the edge, the wind feels lighter. Especially a beach that slopes down toward the water.

I had the suspicion the West Dennis meter might be reading high yesterday. I have had a few sessions in West Dennis where that definitely was the case, but also a few others where the meter seemed to be close. I don't sail there often enough to know when it will read high. Kalmus is easier: pretty accurate in WSW, but low the further south the direction is. For a given gear combo in Kalmus, I need readings of 17 to plane in WSW, but just 14 in S-SSW.
