Just before thanksgiving, pretty much every trailer in San Carlos (including some Solo Sports ones) was systematically broken-into with crowbars etc. and anything electronic of value was stolen ( solar panels, stereos etc). The culprits seem to be "rock-picker" people as foot prints in the mud showed the direction they came from, plus when confronted, there was a lot of aggro. There seems be a bunch of young 'toughs' up there now - they were always driving around close to the camps and doing donuts on the runway....
It's pretty sad as in general PSC has been free of any problems like this for many years.
I doubt anyone loses much sleep over the problems of the 'PSC trailer trash' but if you are visiting PSC in the off-season you would be wise to have your valuables locked up when sailing and keep an eye out. Hopefully Trejo can talk to "el hefe' of the rock camp and move the trouble-makers on. |

When I was there 20 years ago with Solo, Kevin was pretty dang chummy with the federales. Too bad he couldn't enlist there help to curb the riff raff. _________________ The Time a Person Spends Windsurfing is not Deducted from their Lifespan...

that's really too bad to hear. Every time I've been down there it's felt very safe like we could leave anything out in the open whenever we wanted. Even going down to the fish camp, we'd try to buy fish and sometimes they would just give us stuff and not want to take our money. hopefully it's just a few bad apples that will not stick around very long. _________________ Kevin Kan

I've heard that the fish camp guys ( who are almost without exception , hard working and honest people) were NOT happy about this sort of thing happening and have had , lets say, 'strong words' with the rock pickers about it. The offenders may have been run out of Dodge.. |

Not terribly surprising really. The existence those rock pickers live is unbelievably bleak. Even when we were just there for a week, I locked the truck, locked up the motos, and put away the easily steal-able stuff. Bottom line: rock pickers are among the most desperatley poor humans on the planet, and we are rich gringos down there to play. Mind your shit or kiss it goodbye. |
