I will be visiting family (nephew is exec. chef at Sanderling Resort) in Duck, NC for a few days after Christmas. Should I bother bringing windsurfing equipment or drive sports car down. Coming from LI, NY. |

If you are used to cold weather windsurfing and have the rubber for it why not go for it. It has been warmer than normal and probably will be all winter cause of the strong El Nino. Just watch the forecast and decide just before you go. |

Watch the weather and pull the trigger a few days out. Not having your gear in one of the best riding spots anywhere would be a mistake IMO.
I personally ride comfortably into the low 40s, even high thirties on sunny days , and that's with much colder water.. |

If while here, u can make a day trip to Avon for a session at Canadian Hole, recommend driving down the sports car and renting from Wind-NC or one of the shops down there. They will likely drive the gear to the Hole for u if you rent a complete kit for the day (gear rental is top of line in Avon). Check online for the shop websites to see if open around time you are here. Likely they would be if owners are in town for holiday.
Of note, in Duck/northern OBX, there is not really any windsurfing or related water action. Thus would need to drive down to Avon. Bonus though in Avon, water is likely a little warmer down there than up on the northern end.
Thus, would only need to pack your wetsuit and board trunks!

ok, thanks, Bill. I guess my question should have been about sailing spots in Duck, but you answered that for me. I'll contact one of the shops. I usually go down there in April for sailing. |
