A Top Tea Partier Just Called For Violence Against Liberals

Prominent conservatives have been clutching their pearls in horror over the recent shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), working overtime to spin a ridiculous narrative of how the left’s criticism of Donald Trump’s mismanagement is promoting division and violence.

“Hateful: Scalise Shooting Puts Focus on Left’s Vilification of GOP” screams an op-ed at far-right publication LifeZette, one of many that have been quickly churned out in the wake of Wednesday’s attack.

What is always absent is any mention of their own role in advocating for violence against the government, nor their role in enabling shootings by refusing to pass any kind of common sense gun ownership reform.

In case there was any question as to where the violent impulses in American politics are coming from, former Congressman and Tea Party firebrand Joe Walsh made it absolutely clear.

So much for “unity” and “understanding.” Not three days after someone attacked a government official, Walsh is back out there calling for political violence and declaring the beginning of a Second Civil War.

It should come as no surprise that this is not the first time Walsh has made these kinds of remarks. He made headlines around the nation for a similar tweet before the election, threatening violence if Hillary Clinton won the election.

Hobby Lobby fined $3M for smuggling Iraq religious artifacts

Quote:
OKLAHOMA CITY — Hobby Lobby Stores has agreed to pay a $3 million federal fine and forfeit thousands of ancient Iraqi religious artifacts smuggled from the Middle East that the government alleges were intentionally mislabeled for import, federal prosecutors said.

The Oklahoma City-based craft store chain's devout Christian owners have long shown an interest in the biblical Middle East and started to collect artifacts from the region in 2009, according to a civil complaint filed in New York on Wednesday. Hobby Lobby President Steve Green is the owner of one of the largest collections of religious artifacts in the world and is building a Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., due to open in the fall.

Green said in a statement that the company cooperated with the government and "should have exercised more oversight and carefully questioned how the acquisitions were handled."

Hobby Lobby executed an agreement to purchase over 5,500 artifacts in December 2010 for $1.6 million, the complaint says. Prosecutors said acquisition of the artifacts "was fraught with red flags" and that packages bore shipping labels that described their contents as "ceramic tiles."

A dealer based in the United Arab Emirates shipped packages containing the artifacts to three different corporate addresses in Oklahoma City. Five shipments that were intercepted by U.S. customs officials bore shipping labels that falsely declared that the artifacts' country of origin was Turkey.

In September 2011, a package containing about 1,000 clay bullae, an ancient form of inscribed identification, was received by Hobby Lobby from an Israeli dealer and accompanied by a false declaration stating that its country of origin was Israel.

Hobby Lobby consented to the fine and forfeiture of thousands of tablets and bricks written in cuneiform, one of the earliest systems of writing, as well as other artifacts that prosecutors say were shipped without proper documentation, the complaint says.

Prosecutors said Hobby Lobby has agreed to adopt internal policies for importing cultural property and training its personnel.

"Our passion for the Bible continues, and we will do all that we can to support the efforts to conserve items that will help illuminate and enhance our understanding of this Great Book," Green's statement said.

It's not the first time that religious beliefs have put Hobby Lobby in the headlines.

The chain challenged President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act, saying it didn't want to provide certain forms of birth control for its employees, citing religious objections. In June 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Hobby Lobby's favor, saying the company's rights had been violated under the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Lest we forget Hobby Lobby, with their attempts to rewrite the first amendment. Honorable folks? Maybe not.

Kentucky Republican Party official charged with indecent exposure, tasered after resisting arrest

Quote:
David Narramore, the chairman of the Letcher County Republican Party in Kentucky, is facing charges after he exposing himself in a department store bathroom:

David Narramore, 54, of Whitesburg was arrested Saturday night in a Belk department store in Kingsport, Tenn., according to police there.

A store employee told officers that he was in a bathroom stall next to Narramore when Narramore began rubbing his foot against the employee’s. Narramore then exposed himself under the stall to the employee, according to police.

Narramore was escorted to the loss prevention office, and when police officers arrived, he tried to “passively resist” arrest. After pulling away from and then moving toward officers, and then attempting to fight the officers, he was subdued with the stun gun, according to police.
According to the Courier-Journal, the stun gun wasn’t effective:

The Taser, however, didn't have any effect on Narramore, and an officer punched him in the face to subdue him, an arrest citation states. Several officers then wrestled Narromore to the ground and were eventually able to detain him.
He appears to be heavily involved in Kentucky politics:

David Narramore, 54, of Whitesburg, Kentucky at the time served as a member of the State Executive Committee of the state's Republican Party as well as the Letcher County chairman, said Tres Watson, communication's director for the Republican Party of Kentucky.
Narramore unsuccessfully ran for Mayor of Whitesburg in 2014. His arrest will undoubtedly draw comparisons to former Idaho Republican Congressman Larry Craig, who was arrested under similar circumstances at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport in 2007.

Participant in Cliven Bundy standoff sentenced to 68 years in prison
Quote:
The weight of a heavy sentence landed in the quiet federal courtroom Wednesday morning, leaving Gregory Burleson occasionally stroking his graying beard and his attorney pleading unsuccessfully for leniency.

The 53-year-old Burleson was the first to be sentenced for his role in the 2014 standoff between federal agents and supporters of Cliven Bundy near his Nevada ranch.

He got 68 years in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro did take into account his blindness and frailty — he sat in a wheelchair during the hearing — but she also reminded Burleson of his crimes, which included threatening a federal law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice and interstate travel in aid of extortion.

She said agents — who hunkered down in a wash while Bundy supporters trained guns on them, recorded them and shouted at them — were scarred from the experience and suffered mental trauma.

“That isn’t something that heals over with a scab,” Navarro said. “You can’t put it in a cast or stitch it up.”

The case has been watched closely as it marked another round between the federal government and those who believe public lands should be transferred to local control. Burleson’s trial drew supporters from neighboring states throughout the proceedings, which ended in April, and a handful would gather outside the courthouse to monitor the developments and post updates to sympathizers on social media.

But only a few showed up for Burleson’s sentencing at the federal courthouse in Las Vegas. They gathered outside on the sidewalk and they stretched a banner across two ladders that read, “Whatever it takes!” and a reference to a website seeking to free Cliven Bundy.

Inside the courtroom, some supporters watched the sentencing, and Burleson’s mother appeared overcome as she talked quietly with his attorney, Terrence Jackson, in a corner outside the courtroom after Navarro’s decision.

“He was resigned,” Jackson said. “He knew this was coming.”

While Burleson’s sentence was lengthy — fellow convicted Bundy backer Todd Engel is scheduled to be sentenced in September — it was less than it could’ve been as Navarro took into consideration his deteriorating health. Jackson said he will appeal and said the sentence amounted to a life sentence for Burleson.
