Capetonian -

Judging by the boards color (tan rails with back deck and base), looks like you were able to find one of the last remaining carbon version of the 10.5 before they were replaced by the Curve after 2012 I believe. Curious - is yours single fin or tri-fin? From what I heard, the Curve line wasn't quite as popular since they didn't perform as well as their predecessor. Never the less, these are still excellent boards if you can find them (the old ones that is). Heard the 2016 version is basically same as the former Curve line.

Some of us buy the Kona One Design instead. It's 350 cm (11' 6") length fits inside my Honda Odyssey with enough room left for a front passenger.

Howzzat? An 8-4 is a tight fit behind my Odyssey's passenger's seat. Between the seats and against the windshield? Folded? Liftgate open and a dolly on the tail? Deflated and wrapped around the interior? Vertically through the rear sunroof? A PHOTOGRAPH of your 11'6"? Or is that front passenger a cat?

Keep the gear in the van and strap the kids on the roof. I like it.

To get the 350 cm Kona One in the 2005 Odyssey with a passenger in the right front seat and still allow the driver to see the right rearview mirror, do the following: the Kona's stern goes against or on the dashboard, the nose which is just inside the back door is supported about a foot above the floor, the top rail is tilted toward the driver and is next to the driver's shoulder. I'm 5'10" with a trunk longer than average for my height which allows me to see over the rail when some others might not.

Stern to the front & raising the height of the section near the back door are both very important for allowing the driver to see the right rearview mirror.

Of course the fin is removed.

When I don't have a front seat passenger I recline the passenger seat, have the nose at the front at or on the dashboard and am able to leave the fin on.

I wrap a towel loosely around which ever part is on the dashboard to cushion the windshield somewhat in case of a sudden stop.

I forgot to mention the Kona is on a slight diagonal with the nose section at the rear door being close to or touching the left side while the stern section at the dashboard is near the middle. That difference width wise which might be about 18 inches adds about 1-4 inches to the available length.

My megacat fits easily in my dodge van, which is a real van, not one of these mini or midi van and I can still fit a passenger comfortably. I understand many people don't like driving a big van all the time, like me, so I bought a Miata for fun driving time at race tracks when it's not blowing in August.

Yes, longboards should be more popular.

---------------------------------------

Next - I've always (since 1981) put longboards on the roof of my cars. Including the Grand Caravan AWD I've had for years... even though with "some work" I "could" put a 90's Lightning World Cup inside (which I'm not suggesting).
Lots of reasons why I do this (at least, to me) -
It's easier... it's faster... and I keep wet dripping boards out of my car!!!

Next - I almost always (about 60/40) put shortboards on my roof as well.

Everybody has different logical reasons and priorities, for why they do what they do... but this works well for me.
Greg Smile

PS - If I was constantly loading and unloading in wind over 20 mph... I would modify or use a different technique. But I'm not (and most the world is not).

longboards used to be more than 200 liters, close to 380 cm long and about 70 cm wide.
since i do not know these exocets, i had to look them up
the excocet 10'6"/320 cm boards are 145 liters and 65 cm wide
so, they are 60 cm shorter and about 60 liters less
does that still put them in the longboard arena ??
and they are toted as wave/longboard - more rocker ??
curious joe ...

btw my longboards of 380 cm definitely go on the roof of my van

Longboard = daggerboard.
Shortboard = no daggerboard.
And, yes, the line is blurring.

Agree with Iso, the line is blurred, compared to the 80's when long and shortboards were a bit more defined.
"Some" people like it really complicated... but I like the 3 category break-down (which works most the time).
Longboards - 10' and longer, and with a centerboard.
Shortboards - 10' and shorter, and without a centerboard.
Hybrids - Generally shorter than 10', with centerboard (Prodigy, RS:X, etc.)

These newish small longboards (dimensionally)... which don't have centerboards because they're for surfing waves. Don't easily fit into my old categories... so yes, it's blurry.

The take-away is, that we should probably define what we're talking about, instead of lumping "my board" into someone's definition Smile
