Just to avoid confusion, very few if any of us equate recreational with budget/price point sails. Maybe we need to define our terms. |
I get what you're saying. I'd consider the Legacy, Tiger and Cheetah all recreational sails in Ezzy's line, with the Legacy being the budget option of the three. The Lion is a two cam, which a lot of people still consider recreational and the other sails are aimed at people who ride waves and swells who need depower ability. I guess that's still recreational, but I sort of think "all around".
So yes, there are very high end recreational sails (I'd consider the Hucker a high end sail as well) and there are price point recreational sails. The difference seems to be ease of rigging and longevity. |

What gear do you drive in when going 15-25 mph?
You can use first, second, or third, right?
Get 3 sails. |

See for some Legacy discussion. The Legacy is quite different to the other Ezzy sails, it has about 10 things that are lower or reduce cost , rx no pully to down haul, no batten key. Yes, the battens are vinylester instead of RBS. IT HAS X PLY in the upper n lower panels.
XPly , depending on thickness is one rung above mono.
The more durable materials are,
Polyester woven
". Scrim
PEN
TECHNORA
TWARON.
MORE costly top to bottom |
THIS POST IS A CORRECTION. The previous Legacy did not have RBS battens.
The 2016 are said to have a combination of RBS epoxy and traditional battens, whatever they are.
Additional info is it continues to evolve , rx stronger.
Apologize for wrong specs given. _________________ K4 fins

Brian. I feel compelled to address your use of recreational
When I hear this term it's usually used like , me and the family plan some some recreational activity this weekend, also recreational drugs come to mind.
It's used by companies like LLBEAN, to describe the backpacks they sell, or kayaks, they suit most people's use, but if you are climbing Everest purchase your tent elsewhere.
Ezzy does not use the term recreational in its sail description, AFAIK.
MAUI SAILS do.
This is much like the car auto companies that call their small to medium station wagons a SUV, where others avoid the SUV term and hardly any use station wagon, and Crossover is a catchy term. They all elvolved from station wagons, which took steroids
The Ezzy line of sails are high performance ultra strong wind seeking weapons.
The Leagacy may be more like a bazooka than a tank.

Ah, ok. Makes sense. I was using "recreational" as "something a pro wouldn't use", which would be anything but a pro wave sail and race sails. If recreational means putting around on the lake with the occasional planing day...yes, I get where you're coming from.
I think I was interchangeably using "recreational" and "freeride". |

Recreation: having fun.
Covers a lot of ground. Are pros recreating when they're doing double loops 40 feet in the air at Jaws when there's no money at stake? I say yes. Can we buy their sails? Usually, unless maybe they're testing a prototype we can't buy until next year. My sails are unique in the whole world, but anyone can buy them simply by telling the loft, "Build me a quiver like Mike's" and paying the same price I do. Or just buy my used ones. But I strictly recreate; i.e., I haven't been paid to sail since I was in my 50s, and even then it sure as hell wasn't big bucks. |
