I have never heard of ... Vechiles with roof items not being allowed on the bridge... Happen before ..often ..?

Happened once to us, in about a dozen trips (although some were without stuff on top). It applies to anything attached to the outside of a car, not just on the roof. We had to wait a couple of hours, and then put the stuff from the roof into a van they provided. It's worse if you tow a trailer, they won't let you cross until the wind goes down.

The threshold for restrictions is 40 mph. Above 55 mph, high roof vans are not allowed. However, the wind direction also plays a role, and restrictions may apply only in one direction, not the other. Details are at http://www.cbbt.com/travel-information/weather/. We usually check the wind readings and forecast for the 3rd Island meter.

Saw the wind reports and it looks like tons of fun down there. Can't imagine.

I'd like to be down there just to see you guys flying around.

I think next year I'll try to get down around this time with a friend.

Is it normally this nice down there or is this year above average for these conditions? Do you find its hard to get a place around this time because of all the windsurfers or Kiters or is it pretty easy.

We go down to OBX for the summer with our family and inlaws and siblings but I never, until this year, realized how cool it is down there at this time.
