i actually have one of the earlier HSM SpeedFreaks 8.5
as a heavyweight in light winds I like it
lacks a bit of grunt in the really light stuff on longboards ...
extremely light sail with LOTS of range
http://joewindsurfer.blogspot.ca/2014/07/hot-sails-maui-speedfreak-85-hsm-spf-85.html
no videos of myself to avoid footstrap comments Smile
since it has a PVC window it is NOT for colder temps
I sail on ice n snow - even with 8.5 in really light stuff
in the winter I use a Retro now
was always tempted by the Ezzys, but some local said they lacked power/grunt/pull
if the BIG fella likes em - maybe I'll give em a try ...

My original post was just about the impressive durability of my Ezzy sails. Are there better sails ? I don't know. I have a couple of Superfreaks that I bought for durability reasons. The 7.0 Superfreak feels more like a 6.3 to me and I usually will rig my 6.0 Ezzy instead of the 7.0 Superfreak. They seem that close in power with the 7.0 losing out because of its larger size and thus more difficult handling in the ocean. Last time I was on the 7.0 Superfreak I was on my Mistral Equipe on relatively flat water when everyone else was on 5.5's. It as screaming fast . It was also my first catapult in a long time and left a hole the size of my fist in the Equipe. I do rig it on an Ezzy mast so I might not be getting its full potential. I do hope to get some new sails next season. I'll probably go with Ezzy's because new sails are out of my price range and there are a lot of used Ezzys around because they do last. I had 2 used NP combat sails. They did not last very long at all. There is some nasty beach break here in FL at times. With the Ezzy sails and Ezzy RDM masts I have not broken anything in a long time. I would buy something for my wife to try to loosen her up but she already has 3 chainsaws and a backhoe so its not easy.

I think I'd do whatever it takes to keep her happy!

If you like Ezzys, you should get more Ezzys, but if your Ezzys are
serviceable, why do you want more Ezzys?

I was not being facetious about carrying an Ezzy sail on your head with the board on top of that. I did bust a brand new one, only a week old, carrying it on my head with board on top. I heard a pop and when I got to my van and examined the sail I found it had torn right on the spot that I was carrying it on my head. And really, my head is not all that pointy.

Otherwise, I have found the Ezzy sails pretty durable.
