Looking to work on loops and advanced tricks but want to consider a impact vest to protect the ribs and back.
I have a dakine waste harness so it would need to work with that .

any suggestions ?

Sailing on Lake Champlain I wear PFD (NY State law).
Sailing at Hatteras I don't wear the PFD.
Broken ribs two different times in Hatteras compared to never on Lake Champlain. Seems like my PFD acts like an impact vest.
It is more comfortable to sail with the PFD than sailing with banged up ribs. Plan on wearing next Hatteras trip.

How about Dakine's impact vest? I liked mine, but I don't wear waist harnesses so I can't vouch for their compatibility. Neal Pryde has a variety of high hook impact vests
(example: http://www.amazon.com/NP-Surf-High-Hook-Flotation/dp/B00HLAD4PK )
one of which I like and use.

The ultimate rib armor I have is a custom (thus amenable to any hook height) ballistic kevlar professional bull rider/motocross vest from http://motoxvest.com/ .

I applaud your interest in rib armor. Like a helmet, it reduces the likelihood and extent of injury and reduces the inhibition that interferes with commitments to stunts like looping.

The harness itself is more likely to break a rib in my opinion. There are lots of jackets made to work waist harnesses sold in kite shops.

I've never heard of that happening.

Ditto. All rib injuries I know of were caused by boom or board.

Pro Motion, make a good one. I forgot mine and got a ION.
All that I have seen or have seem designed to work with waist harness.

Of note the kiting shop ones, Mystic have a nice product.

Also of note to protect ribs it would need to be fairly low in padding, so a higher waist harness may be needed, again ION.

THE NEIL PRYDE high hook float coat works well for most instead of a impact vest
