Don't fall....... Right.. Water starts are a very easy thing to learn. Ask someone at your local spot for help. Once you learn you can do them in very lite wind. It takes a bit more wind to learn but its worth the effort.
This will open up the world of windsurfing in higher winds and short boards.
Its not magic. Put in an hour on a windy and your good to go... |

We get out of a swimming pool by swimming up to the edge, placing both palms on the edge, then with one big scissor kick at the same time as we shove down on the edge we vault directly from submerged up to our neck to our feet ON the edge. The same process works on a board of sufficient volume. That way only your hands and feet need ever touch the deck. If you can do it in the deep end of a pool, transfer the skill to your Go, then to your more abrasive board.
OTOH, the most valuable skill in all of windsurfing is the waterstart .... by FAR, IMO. Focus on it until mastered ... a whole day if necessary. I haven't carried an uphaul since learning to waterstart in the 1980s; the skill is THAT useful and THAT important.
