I would be willing to bet there are several disused beginner rigs lying around the garages and crawl spaces of the houses right on your lake. Hunt around!

Comes down to, just how good a surfer are you?
More than a handful of my surfing friends, mostly expert to amateur competition levels, were riding 90 liter poly glass freeride boards within 3 days of their beginner windsurfing lesson.
That old surf shop owner, Bob Wise, certainly not a good surfer, was riding a 8'10" poly glass windsurf board within 5 windsurfing days on a beginner board, and could have ridden it sooner, if it had come in sooner from Seatrend.
One of his current employees, Dave A, was able to ride a 9'6" poly glass windsurfer within 3 days of his beginner board experience.
Surf legend Joey Valera was riding a 9'6", maybe 90 liter poly glass board on his 2nd day EVER on a windsurfer. I know, I took him out his first day, then took him to HMB his second ever, and first day on the 9'6" Seatrend board. He just rode from shore to shore, didn't fall in the middle, NW winds around 12 mph and no planing. |

I just can't understand why it takes you folkes so long to learn to windsurf.
My brother, no athlete and kinda a dork, rented those Windsurfer Star boards for 3 days, and I gave him my old 9'9" Sailboards Maui 125 liter windsurfer, and he rode it at Lake Folsom immediately, no problem, but was slow to uphaul and didn't know about waterstarting. He was 155lbs then, and 5'10".
It was maybe 14-20 mph, both of us on 5.5's, me sometimes planing, mostly slogging. No big deal. Yes, he got launched in the gusts, and fell back dozens of times in the lulls, but it was SUPPOSE to be a learning experience, and he did just fine. He doesn't live in a high wind area, so soon enough, got tired of driving to RanchSeco and Rio Vista, and bought several jet ski's to compliment his Coronado 15 and his ChrisCraft 18' water ski boat. |

It is difficult to find suitable gear in the used market, when you don't live in a hotbed of windsurf Mecca. I live in Denver, one shop in town, were I looking for the ideal gear for you, they MORE than likely don't have it.
Look at craigslist further away from Home.
To ship a large board it gets pricey, UNLESS it's by a larger company , who would have a rate set with say FEDEX OR UPS, shipping costs are done on length width and weight.
There will be some WindSUP, COMPANY THAT WILL FALL IN THIS,
And should be reasonable in cost. Comming out , or out are inflatable sups that will accept a windsurf sail.
Don't know who is close to you, ISTHUMUS SAILBOARDS COME TO MIND.
TO ADDRESS options , would require a crap load of typing. And numerous pros and cons.
If you could find a swap meet that would be good.
You can post a wanted add on Craigslist, eBay COULD BE a option, the buy sell market on this site, could be a option.
Sails can be had on this but sell, as mention previous Windance USED, HAVE lots of sail. The board you want , could be a longboard, or newer starter, as Starboard make, Naish.
I suggest post on the forum to get a sample of suitability for board or sail.
Also as said the rig probably exists near, finding its a PITA _________________ K4 fins

The board is as close to ideal as possible. The sails 7.4 & 9.6 are too large to learn on. PERIOD.
ENTIRE package.
RIO WITH 2 fins,....$850...
7.4 & 9.6... 150 each
490 Fiberspar, 150
Carbon boom..$250
Think a base and ext are in there, 35
Total of $1585. Prices a guess estimate pending condition, but IMO realistic.
Other items are not worth much, not included for pricing.
If I were the buyer I would consider the board, and boom as the primary .
I would consider the package with intent to purchase a small sail, RX a 5.5, requiring a smaller mast.
For the 490 Fiberspar and sails,
A. Sell all.
B. Keep for future development. _________________ K4 fins

Ok, it is nice to know that board is what I'm looking for. Will I be able to plane with a board like that in 10 mph winds at 210 lbs?
What do you think of this board? https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/spo/5642117600.html
Is it too narrow?
Thanks! |

NO-ONE CAN PLANE ON THAT BOARD WITH ANY SIZE SAIL IN 10mph.
To plane is less than 15mph, approximate speed, you would require some specialized light wind gear, like. 11m sail and something like a Serenity.
The link is a older long board, without knowing more about its specs it's difficult to speculate on its suitability, so the width and liters.
IT APPEARS TO HAVE A OLDER MAST TRACK, THAT PARTS ANYMORE MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE, MAY NOT.
THE BOARD ITSELF IS A OLDER LONGBOARD, THAT SHOULD WORK FINE FOR LEARNING.
THE RIO IS A NEW GENERATION LEARNER BOARD. MUCH EASIER TO LEARN.
ITS WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD, THE NEWER BOARDS HAVE A MUCH GENTLER LEARNING CURVE. _________________ K4 fins
