well would a united states of americas be a good thing or bad. After all the USA is not one single nation of immigrants and was never meant to be.

germany was able to do it and absorb a nation of poverty. And look how well that has worked so far.

We already have Puerto Rico in a similar arrangement/respect.

So why not combine the USA and Mexico, probably costs less than a wall(sarcasm), and the benefits in the long term would be spectacular.

I believe this is the only way we can defeat the drug cartels that are destroying Mexico's culture is a huge benefit.

Rachel Maddow looks back at the devastating effects of two world wars in Europe and Winston Churchill's call for a "United States of Europe" that was eventually followed by the United Kingdom's participation in what would become the European Union

Correction. You, via some loud mouthed T.V. nonentity, are applying the Churchill call in 1946 (in more than one speech) for a United States of Europe, to the present day set up.

Churchill did NOT state clearly where he considered Gt Britain would stand in this United States of Europe. He was primarily concerned with healing the wounds of all out war (Germany and France mainly) , while recognising that our countries strongest ties at that time were with the Commonwealth.

Their has been endless discussion of what he really considered our place would be, but the balance of opinion is that he did not envisage our complete integration in such a project.

The lesson is, do NOT attempt to apply his call during the vastly different world conditions of that age, to the scenario facing Europe today. Especially when a person is extremely politically biassed, and blinded to the historical and cultural history of our ISLAND race!

one could argue ww2 was so much worse for the UK than anything they have seen since then.

Again you were just months away from having a series of atomic bombs placed in your main cities. You were being bombed hourly by conventional bombs. The first and only jet planes were now flying by the germans with no such counter by the british or americans in the near future that would have given them complete devastating air superiority over the close tiny island that your culture would have been erased from the face of the map by escorted bombing missions and no way to bomb europe what so ever anymore so the jet factories could run without any problems cranking them out, improving them.

Once again, correction.

Frank Whittle pioneered British jet engines, with a flying proptotype long before the end of the war. The Gloster Meteor entered RAF fighter Command service in the latter stages of the war, and was successful in intercepting and destroying many of the V1 flying bombs (Doodle-bugs) in defence of London.

We were not erased from the surface of the earth, either during the Battle of Britain in 1940, which we WON!!,Hitler had assembled his invasion fleet but failed to destroy the RAF, so he abandoned his invasion plan, and turned East against Russia instead.) or in the latter stages of the V1 and V2 rocket bombardment.

If you knew what you were talking about you would be aware that British intelligence sources, through underground contacts, had identified Peenemunde as the centre of rocket (Von Brauns scientists) research and development, and a massive strike by Lancaster bombers, successfully 'took it out', thus delaying their research by many months.

I object to the re-writing of history becuase without that sever set back, the Germans may very well have beaten the allies to the atomic bomb, and rocket delivery systems. Hitler certainly planned to strike against America also! (Either by longer range bombers, or improved range rockets.)

It was, of course, Von Braun and his team Germans) who were the real brains of your countries moon landings.

then do not re-write it till you change it on wikipedia.

The Messerschmitt Me 262, nicknamed Schwalbe (German: "Swallow") in fighter versions, or Sturmvogel (German: "Storm Bird") in fighter-bomber versions, was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft.[5]

next as far as yes, it would have been used on the USA too. They would never had enough raw materials to do significant damage to the USA for a long time. But the point of the conversation is the times of the ww2 were certainly at the brink of your removal from the earth as a society. Much more of a threat by a huge margin than todays present imminent threats.

again you were being carpet bombed continuously... apples to oranges.

From the editors of the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Frank Whittle invented the jet engine. He first put forward his vision of jet propulsion in 1928 in a thesis, while at RAF college. He obtained a patent for a turbo-jet engine in 1930, and founded the Power Jet Company Ltd in 1936. He built and tested his first jet engine, on the ground, in 1937. The Gloster E28/29 prototype jet first flew in May 1941.

The only reason the Germans had the first operational jet fighter was because the British government of the time did not take Whittles work seriously, and he was forced to slow development owing to a lack of proper funding.

His book, 'Jet; The Story of a Pioneer' was published in 1953. In 1977 he became a research professor at the US Naval Academy in Maryland.

It is not I who is rewriting history. Whittle is universally credited with the invention of the jet engine. Pity his work wasn't taken seriously by the government, at the time, when his first jet engine was running, though they belated realised their error, a mistake the Germans didn't make!
