|
|
Hi Gang,
The wind patterns at all the major west coast wind venues have been atypical much of this season but especially this last week or so.
The Bay Area has seen endless southerly wind from atypical huge eddies that has brought many sites N. of the Bay Bridge, especially Sherman Island, endless wind while the Peninsula has been unreliable and the coast mostly dead.
While Southern California has seen huge eddies far bigger than the normal Catalina Eddy that have kept the winds mostly mild.
And the Gorge is going on a week of upper 20's to low 30's wind that has been way gustier than normal and often with smaller and more confused swell than typical. All due to atypical upper shortwaves from storms to the NW.
All these events are tied to a North Pacific High that has been misbehaving due to out of season lingering storm systems to the north and way out of season tropical storms to the south. Hard to ignore the fact that the times are changing.
Below are some photos I shot this week for the wind deprived.

If you are willing to get in your car and drive a little, there is great wind to be had. Places like the Delta, Treasure Island, Pt Isabel, and Larkspur have been blowing like crazy for days.

opps! Sorry I just noticed my typo! I have been forecasting those strong North Bay and East Bay winds for days.
I meant to say: "endless southerly wind from atypical huge eddies that has brought many sites N. of the Bay Bridge, especially Sherman Island, endless wind"

Always best to try it all, slalom, course (Formula), waves, freestyle, bump n jump, speed trials, then you have a good base for future decisions.
I do need to try freestyle, but at 67, maybe aerial twisting crash's not the best.

There's been wind it's just hard having a job
I work off Oyster Point Blvd. Candlestick, OPM, Haskins, Embassy and Coyote and Turd all within 15mins. It's just been better in the Delta and TI to the North West. Great PIX!

if you can get to those sites in time (delta, treasure) as traffic is a nightmare in the afternoon; or it's simple not possible to sail at 6-7am in the delta when you have to be at work at 8-9am on the peninsula...
coast been pretty good too lately. can't complain.

If I was a Sacramento sailor I would choose to live in the Pocket Area. 1 hour to Sherman. That and it gets a share of the delta breeze.
