I just returned to my home in Sandpoint Idaho after more than a month
of very fun time down in The Gorge
Here we can do a kind of windsurfing called "Boardsailing"
Some of us still enjoy the Long boards of old.
Now I find that there is "committe" somewhere that has decided
that any "Water Craft" defined as any "hard Surfaced Craft"
(Like a Paddle Board) (or an old long board with a Paddle)
that can carry a person is subject to a $150.00 fine for
Not Displaying an "Envasive Spiecies Sticker" !!!!
The look of it is "Exactly" like a Boat Liecence.
The Money is reported to fund Checkpoints for inspection.
Thier Motive is not an issue,
If it is important enough
then legeslate funds for it!
For me, getting a chance to use my "Gorge Gear" here is
Not that often, and my stopping for an inspection is not likely...
I DON'T LIKE THIS. I DON'T LIKE THIS A LOT!!!
The likelyhood of, them getting away with this in the gorge is about the
same as seeing every windsurfer wearing a bright Orange
"Coast Gard Appoved" Vest.
"In order to liecence something they must first take away your
right to do it without purchaceing thier permission!"
BEWARE THIS INVASIVE PRACTICE IS REALLY HAPPENING IN IDAHO !!
ARE YOU NEXT??

This has been a requirement for SUPs 10' and longer in Oregon since at least 2010.

Previously, in Idaho any "Vessel" under 9' was exempt.
Now all the Kyaks and paddle bords are targeted for
intensive inforcement.
NO WARNINGS are being issued.
Reported fine amounts are inconsistant
You could get a fine for not having a
fire extengisher on your paddle board?
If you keep your "board inside an enclosed
official "swim" area they see that they have
no jurisdiction, the Board of Idaho is quoting
vauge referrences to "Coast Gaurd opinions
regarding "vessels". The "Hard Surface" seems to be
something that they just made up!
As windsurfers are routenly removed from the water
and are Dry, I see NO case where it can be shown
that windsurfers have transmitted invasive spieces.
I have Never seen a Snail of any kind stuck to a windsurfer.
Fins over 15" may be a risk, with Milfoil. But
None of the services (i.e. hot washes at inspection
stations) are of any use to a windsurfer so:
It must just be about the Money.
