Fanatic Skate
Noted to be a free style board that also jibes and does all the
old freestyle moves well.

The new freestyle waves are mostly wave oriented or more freeride wave.

I rented the 2015 3s in Maui last year

It is a FSW board. I brought my freestyle fin and tried to vulcan with it, and it was tough. I know a good freestyler can do it, just like they can on a wave board, but to learn freestyle on it I think would be much tougher.

Interesting, the latest 3S 116 was shortened from 242 to 226 this year, so maybe it is better. As a FSW, it was nice. It planes up fast and turns pretty well due to the tail design.

Sounds like I'm better off spending a little more and getting a FSW board.

No reason it should cost more. My last FSW (RRD 90L with only cosmetic signs of wear .... zero damage) cost me $95 including Chinook two-bolt mast base and very good OEM fin and straps.

Swap meets rule ... for buyers.

Thanks Spennie, I may be at Isabella this weekend or the next. I see a lot of 110L FS boards that are good deals, I just always worry that they're too much for my specific (fat) needs and they'll be too much because of chop.

The OP..BRIAN IS LOOKING FOR ADVISE ON A FREESTYLE BOARD FOR B.J
FREERIDE

NOT FREESTYLE. Nor a FSW for freestyle.

BRIAN , I stated it didn't work for me, it could have been the board or me or both.
I like Tabou , had 5 at one time, 8 total.
The 3S, is not a favorite, old or new.
The Pocket Wave and Rockets yes.

Buying something on price along is usually a bad priority.

Yup, I agree after reading everyone's feedback. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a FSW.

The carvability of pure freestyle boards varies widely. I sail a JP Freestyle board that's ten years old...it will carry all sorts of fins (including swept pointers) and sails like a quickplaning all around board. But my 2013 Skate is much more fussy.

I like the older freestyle boards for freeriding. In my avatar photo I'm on the 2005 JP in a wavesailing session. If I was buying new today I'd look for a big freestyle wave.
