I live in West Palm Beach, Florida
I could live anywhere in the United States and I choose to live on the SE coast of Florida
Jupiter has excellent wavesailing and is an excellent place to raise a family
There is enough people to have culture like theater and museums and restaraunts. No crowds, no traffic, low crime
The intracoastal has flat water sailing if waves are not your thing
The wind season is September to May. That is 9 months a year!
The most used rigs are a 6.2 and a 110 liter board
There are plenty of 5.3 and 90 liter days and the occasional 4.5 day
We live for cold fronts and they come through all winter/ spring sometimes 2 per week with one day of west wind and rain, then 3 days of of n.e then east
May brings warm south winds
You only need a thin wetsuit in December and January
Summers are very hot with rain every day
We do get hurricanes in summer, but they are tracked by satellite and there is usually plenty of warning to close the shutters and put everything away.
I am always amazed that we are not more famous as a world class windsurfing spot!

Hi glenherman; by Jupiter do you mean the beach seen on the webcam? I check it almost every day and have seen a lot more windy days than windy days with sailors. I assume NE to SE works there. Do you only go out when there is wind and a groundswell? it looks like the beach is closed this week(with several windy days) by the beach replenishment. Any info appreciated.

Other than hatteras, the best place on the east coast is Hampton Roads.
1. It's 2 hours from Hatteras
2. Chicks beach is epic out of the north
3. Decent amount of local sailors
4. Sailing without neoprene from may to November.

Man, does that part sound great. That's a rare treat on the Columbia or even in New Mexico for those who care about their safety and extended comfort.

The sensor on the cam is atop a very tall building so the meter reads higher than the actual.
The beach is open during replenishment however the inlet is not always the preferred launch.
Groundswell is nice but is often 2 ft @9 sec yielding a humble shoulder to head high playground like yesterday and today. We often look forward to (any) wind that is side shore or slightly offshore preferably opposing the swell direction. During the Seabreeze season the wind swell can grow throughout the day leading to chest conditions that a coastal sailor may get a few turns.
Pictured is a more onshore inlet day showing how a sailor can just blast around inside the sandbar on an otherwise maybe too onshore wave setup.
One can keep track of some reported Florida sailing on the Facebook group

Wind dire ton is often more important than velocity.. According to the screenshot MSW.....will have you on the water every day pictured. Light wind ocean sailing will double your time on windsurfing gear in Fl. |

Oh man, those pictures look great. I miss year-round opportunities for windsurfing. I used to windsurf in San Diego in January in a shortie 3/2 wetsuit. Living in Portland I haven't been in the water since September, and my first session of 2017 (sometime in April) will be in my hooded 5/4 or my drysuit!
